After 34 prestigious years Telecommunication Sergeant Stephanie Hays has retired. Often times the voice on the phone, the radio, or the face in the lobby window you would find or hear Stephanie. It was more than just a job it was a commitment that came with a lot of sacrifice. Holidays, weekends, nights, all worked behind the console. Often times being the calming voice on the other end of someone’s worst day. Or the confidence in directing Deputies and Emergency Responders to chaotic scenes.

Stephanie you have been more than a voice on the radio. You have been the heart to the working parts and logistics of our Department. Your time here will not be forgotten and your Bond County Sheriff’s Department family can’t wait to see what your future holds! Don’t be a stranger, this isn’t good bye just a see you around!

P.S. we know how much you will miss the mounds of paperwork you are trying to enter while the phone rings and the radio is blaring!

Congratulations T/C Sgt. Stephanie Hays

Controlled burn 🔥 info!

🔥 🔥 🔥 Controlled Burn Reminder 🔥 🔥 🔥

This is a reminder that if you do have a controlled burn of your property, to notify the Bond County Fire Departments that you are.

This helps to stop area Fire Departments from getting called out to your property by someone seeing the fire and not realizing it's intentional.

Some steps to help ensure no issues arise:

▪️Notify the Greenville Police Dispatch Center at 618-664-2131

🔺️ DO NOT call the Sheriff's Department to report a controlled burn. This is a different Dispatch Center from the one that dispatches the Fire Departments 🔺️

▪️Give your name, property location, how long you will be burning, and a telephone number.

▪️Notify neighbors of your intention to burn.

▪️STAY WITH THE AREA WHILE BURNING. It's only controlled if someone is there, watching the fire.

▪️Be sure everything is extinguished before you leave. Any Fire escaping the property and doing damage is your responsibility.

▪️Again, a working telephone number is a must! We need to be able to get in touch with you if we get called out.

🔴 Unattended Fire Will Be Extinguished 🔴

If you are having a controlled burn and it looks like it's getting away, DIAL 911. Do not wait to make that call. We would much rather it be a small issue than a major event.

Check the weather forecast before, during, and after the burn. Just because winds are calm at the start, doesn't mean they will be in 2 hours. Is there a risk winds will blow embers around overnight?

Remember: Yes, the ground may be soaking wet, but the grass and brush on top is dead and dry. Firefighters may have difficulty gaining access to the fire.

We will post any Fire Weather Advisories or Burn Ban notices here on the page. Burn notices will also be broadcast on WGEL radio and sent out via the Bond County CodeRed Notification System.

⚠️🟠 IL Rt 140 Resurfacing - Loose Gravel 🟠⚠️

Use extreme caution on IL Rt 140 from Idler Lane to Mulberry Grove.

Crews have oil and chipped the roadway. Loose rock covers the entire surface.

Speed limits are temporarily reduced through the construction zones.

Be alert for Construction personnel and equipment during the project.

Note: this is NOT a new process. Rt. 140 was done several years ago from Patriots park to Madison County and recently Rt.143 the same. The road will eventually smooth out and will look like a normal road surface.. until then, please slow down and use caution, especially on the curves.
