Our trails are currently open 7 days a week, dawn to dusk, and our building is open from 10am-4pm, Thursday to Sunday. There you will find the Kimberlin Nature Education Center building with exhibits, staff offices, and classrooms. Within this main center building is the Hilfiger Children’s Learning Center with hands-on nature activities and interpretive natural history exhibits, the Kiernan Hall Nature Art Gallery, a Wildlife Viewing Window, and honey bee hive exhibit, The Perch Coffee Lounge, and The Nature Store: books, binoculars, bird feeders, gifts. The Kimberlin Nature Education Center is also available for event rentals and children’s parties. Our center also serves as the site for the Quaker Ridge Hawk Watch, one of the best locations in the Northeast United States to view the fall migration of raptors. The all time record of 30,000+ broad-winged hawks counted in one day has not been matched in the region. Golden and Bald Eagles, Common Ravens, and Black Vultures are among the many species that have been spotted here. Classroom and field workshops are offered to develop identification skills. Each September, we celebrate the season at our annual Fall Festival & Hawk Watch celebration. Vist the Audubon Greenwich website (http://greenwich.audubon.org) to learn more.

Our Quaker Ridge Hawk Watch Season starts TOMORROW Tuesday August 25th and we are thrilled to welcome Hannah Mahar as this year’s Official Hawk Counter! Hannah is no stranger to Northeastern Hawk Watches having worked for Hawk Mountain Sanctuary as official counter for Route 183 Hawk Watch and also served as official counter for Bake Oven K**b Hawk Watch in Pennsylvania. She has also worked on numerous raptor banding projects across the Eastern U.S. from banding Broad-Winged Hawks in Vermont to Snail Kites in Florida! Hannah also previously worked for Audubon as a seabird researcher for Project Puffin in Maine so we are delighted to welcome her back to Audubon and hope you all can come visit her and our volunteer hawkwatchers at the hawk watch every day August 25 through November 30. All are welcome to come stop by the hawk watch to help us continue collecting this incredibly important community science data and enjoy the magic of hawk migration! 🦅

(All birds in photos handled under federally licensed bird banding permits using proper handling techniques)

Ever had a beautiful flower in your garden get overwhelmed by a w**d? Or maybe you've been in a battle against Mugwort or Garlic Mustard in your vegetable garden... The good news is you don't need to be a professional landscaper to make a difference in your yard. If managing the plants in your yard has ever been a goal of yours, check out this Invasive Species Lecture Series. Our Land Steward Manager Matt Viens recently participated in this lecture series launched by the Greenwich Conservation Commission, Greenwich Parks and Recreation, and the Greenwich Land Trust to help the general public understand the war against invasive plant species, why it matters, and what you can do right in your own backyard to create the healthiest garden and yard that you can.
