Yesterday afternoon, Greenwich firefighters responded to a significant carbon monoxide incident at a home in the Cos Cob section of Town. Five people were transported to the hospital due to carbon monoxide exposure.
🥶 With colder weather approaching and the heating season beginning, the Greenwich Fire Department reminds residents to follow these important carbon monoxide safety tips:
🏠 Protect Your Home:
🔔 Install carbon monoxide (CO) detectors on every level of your home.
🔧 Have your heating system inspected annually by a qualified professional.
🌬️ Keep vents and chimneys clear of obstructions.
🚗 Never run a vehicle inside an attached garage, even with the garage door open.
⚠️ If your carbon monoxide detector sounds or you suspect carbon monoxide is present in your home, get everyone outside immediately and call 911 from a safe location.
☠️ Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas that can be deadly. Make sure your home is protected!
