We love to see collaboration between our members! The Greater Poweshiek Community Foundation and the Claude W. & Dolly Ahrens Foundation have kicked off their annual We Give Campaign. This philanthropic initiative addresses the immediate needs of our neighbors, first responders, future generations, and community organizations, with the goal of building a resilient future for Poweshiek County.

With more than 100 funds to choose from, the We Give 2026 initiative allows you to direct your generosity wherever your heart lies. Whether you value fighting food insecurity, supporting local educators and students, growing mental health resources, or improving recreational spaces, your gift will make a direct impact in Poweshiek County.

When public resources fall short, local philanthropy bridges the gap. Your contributions empower our hometown nonprofits, support scholarships, and strengthen public safety resources when our communities need them most.

We had another great Poweshiek Area Nonprofit Group (PANG) session yesterday! Thank you to everyone who attended and thank you to Shannon Fitzgerald from the Claude W. & Dolly Ahrens Foundation for giving an amazing and informative presentation about Financial Fundamentals for Nonprofits!

Have you heard it’s Donor Advised Fund Day? 🤩

On October 8, the nation is celebrating Donor Advised Fund Day. Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) are one of the most flexible, tax-smart ways to support the causes you are passionate about.

With a DAF, you can make grants to:
- 501(c)(3) Organizations
- Government entities

DAFs can’t be used for gifts to individuals, personal pledges, event tickets or fees, or political campaigns.

It’s also We Give Month 💚 at GPCF and our Catalog of Giving is a great place to spark ideas of grants you’d like to make from your DAF. ✨

We are proud to partner with the Iowa Center for Economic Success and support its mission of providing free tax services through the VITA program. We could not have done it without the amazing volunteers who help make this service possible! 💚💙

Shout out to our VITA partner, Greater Poweshiek Community Foundation, for being an integral part of our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program!

This past tax season, across ALL 96 sites, we saw 18,762 returns, 1,531 small business taxes filed, 4,690 hours of financial counseling, and $4,690,500 in tax preparation fees saved, securing over $27 million in state and federal refunds for Iowans.
