That’s a wrap on Fire Prevention Month!

October has been filled with opportunities to connect with our community, share important fire safety lessons, and help our youngest residents learn how to stay safe.

From school visits to community events, your Gulfport firefighters have enjoyed every opportunity to educate, engage, and build relationships with the people we proudly serve.

A huge THANK YOU to our schools, community partners, and everyone who welcomed us throughout the month!

While Fire Prevention Month may be coming to an end, our commitment to keeping Gulfport safe continues all year long.

Here’s a look back at some of our favorite moments from Fire Prevention Month 2026!

What an incredible night at Touch-A-Truck!

We were blown away by the turnout and loved seeing so many families come out to explore the vehicles, meet our first responders, and get an up-close look at the equipment used to serve our community!

From the smiles on the kids’ faces to the excitement of climbing inside the trucks, it was a night full of great memories!

A HUGE thank you to all of the agencies and organizations that joined us and helped make this event such a success!

Special thanks to:
Mississippi Department of Marine Resources
Mississippi Highway Patrol
Coast Electric

And most importantly, THANK YOU, GULFPORT! ❤️

Events like this remind us why we love serving this community. We appreciate everyone who spent their evening with us, and we can't wait to do it again!

🚨 PUBLIC ADVISORY – COUNTYWIDE BURN BAN IN EFFECT 🚨

Gulfport is now under a burn ban through November 9, 2026.

All outdoor burning involving an open flame that produces embers is strictly prohibited.

Dry conditions increase the risk of fires spreading rapidly, putting homes, property, and lives in danger.

We urge all residents to take this ban seriously and do their part to prevent unnecessary fires.

One spark is all it takes. Help us keep Gulfport safe!

We train for the rescues most people hope they’ll never need.

From dangling high above the ground to being trapped in a collapsed trench, confined space, or dangerous floodwaters, some emergencies demand more than your everyday tools.

That’s where specialized training, advanced equipment, and highly skilled firefighters come into play.

Did you know that Gulfport serves as the hub for Mississippi Task Force 3?

Operating under the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security, MSTF-3 provides specialized rescue resources for some of the most challenging emergencies.

As the hub for MSTF-3, our department maintains an extensive inventory of specialized equipment for rope rescue, confined space rescue, trench rescue, and swiftwater rescue, ready to be deployed when needed.

Join Lieutenant Joseph Abercrombie as he takes us behind the scenes for a look at some of the MSTF-3 equipment housed and maintained right here in Gulfport.

🚨 PUBLIC ADVISORY – ORANGE GROVE AREA 🚨

This evening, we responded to brush fires in the Orange Grove area.

All fires are currently under control. However, residents and motorists may continue to notice smoke in the area for some time as remaining vegetation smolders.

We encourage motorists to use caution when traveling through areas where smoke may reduce visibility. Residents with respiratory conditions may also want to limit outdoor exposure if smoke is present.

There is no need for alarm if you notice lingering smoke in the area. Our personnel have the situation under control.

Thank you for your patience and understanding!

Every firefighter has a story, and not everyone’s journey to the fire service looks the same.

From completely different careers to unexpected backgrounds, our firefighters took different paths to get here. But today, they all share the same mission: serving and protecting our community.

We asked some of our members what they did before becoming firefighters, and some of their answers might surprise you!
