Tucked away in the heart of the industrial region of northwest Indiana is an island of nature with some very unusual features. This 131-acre parcel of virtually "undisturbed" land is known as Gibson Woods Nature Preserve . . . The dune and swale features of the preserve were produced after the last glacier created ancient Lake Chicago, the forerunner of Lake Michigan. The parallel sand ridges still found in Gibson Woods today represent the effect of Lake Chicago as it retreated thousands of years ago.

Otherwise you can donate them to Gibson Woods-we put them out of the wildlife. Please bring free of decorations/candles/paint/etc.

Always a treat to have Humane Indiana Wildlife visit us to learn something new about local wildlife. The saw-whet & short eared owl, as well as the broad winged hawk were welcome visitors. Thank you again to Dunes-Calumet Audubon Society for sponsoring today’s event. We are grateful to great partnerships with these amazing organizations.

On tap to visit are a saw-whet owl, short-eared owl and broad winged hawk. We can't wait to learn something new about our migrating birds of prey!
