Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum Experience the PLACE that inspired the stories! The Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum campus maintains the places where Sam Clemens explored, lived and dreamed.
(467)

He would turn those memories into some of America's greatest literature. The Museum complex includes the Boyhood Home, Interpretive Center, Huck Finn House, WPA Stone Building/Gift Shop, Becky Thatcher House (under renovation), John M. Clemens Justice of the Peace Building, Grant's Drug Store, the Tom & Huck statue, and the Museum Gallery. Artifacts include numerous items that once belonged to Mark Twain including a white suit coat, his Oxford gown, a jewelry box he had hand-carved in Italy for Olivia, photos, first editions, letters, etc. The Museum also houses 15 original Norman Rockwell paintings of Tom and Huck.

"But in this country we have one great privilege which they don't have in other countries. When a thing gets to be absolutely unbearable the people can rise up and throw it off. That's the finest asset we've got -- the ballot box." Mark Twain from an interview in Boston Transcript, 6 November 1905

"No party holds the privilege of dictating to me how I shall vote. If loyalty to party is a form of patriotism, I am no patriot. If there is any valuable difference between a monarchist and an American, it lies in the theory that the American can decide for himself what is patriotic and what isn't. I claim that difference. I am the only person in the sixty millions that is privileged to dictate my patriotism."
- Mark Twain, a Biography

Don’t forget to vote 🗳️ this week!

W-h-o–g-o-t–m-y–g-o-l-d-e-n arm?

You’ve got it!

"We would huddle close about the old man, and begin to shudder with the first familiar words; and under the spell of his impressive delivery we always fell a prey to that climax at the end when the rigid black shape in the twilight sprang at us with a shout." - Mark Twain in a letter to Joel Chandler Harris referring to his favorite ghost story told by Daniel Quarles "The Golden Arm"

If you missed Adam Nelson's book launch of Huckleberry Jim we recorded it! Enjoy it anytime, and pick up your copy at the museum.
