The Emmet County Road Commission was established in 1909 and is overseen by a three member board of commissioners. The 43 employees of the Road Commission are responsible for a total of 1,050 miles of roadway which consists of 217 miles of state trunk lines, 244 miles of primary roads, and 589 miles of local roads.

Lane Closure: M-119 between Beach Rd and Johan's Burger Express/Marathon Gas Station beginning Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026

MDOT will be performing soil borings on M-119 north of Beach Road, requiring lane closures. This work is in preparation for a potential future project to address high water levels near this intersection.

Estimated end date: Friday, Oct. 23, 2026

Traffic restrictions: This work will require single-lane closures with one lane of alternating traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals.
