Today the Cemetery was honored to host a ceremony from an Honor Guard of the US Air Force from Whiteman Air Force Base, recognizing all of the POW/ EX POW and MIA/KIA veterans that are interred here at the Veterans Cemetery. These active duty military members came out and gave of their time to place a beautiful wreath at the POW/MIA monument, and then walked the cemetery grounds placing small flags on the graves of those being remembered this week on Friday for National POW/MIA Recognition Day (third Friday each September). We thank them for their service and their recognition.

EDIT!!!!! We mistakenly posted a 2:00 p.m. service time on the earlier post. Service is at 1:00 p.m!!! If you shared the earlier post before the edit, please share this so that folks have the right time. Sorry for any confusion!

he Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville is once again asking for anyone with a few minutes of free time to spare to come and honor a veteran that has passed with no known family. We would like to have a few folks come show support and act as interim "family and friends" for Richard Powell Jr, an Air Force veteran from the Vietnam era. The service is scheduled for Thursday, August 20th at 1:00PM. Thank you in advance if you are able to attend.

Our annual Memorial Day Ceremony honoring our fallen veterans will be held on Monday, May 25th beginning at 9:00 am. Please plan accordingly as parking will fill in quickly, so a slightly earlier arrival would be recommended. Also, please bring a lawn chair if you are not wanting to stand, as we have limited seating available for folks with disabilities. Also, an umbrella might be needed as the current forecast shows a chance of rain the morning hours.
