We were honored to proclaim Tuesday, December 1, 2026 as Burke County, NC Nonprofit Day (aka 1BurkeGives) and encourage all citizens to recognize the positive impact nonprofit organizations have on the quality of life of the citizens of Burke County.

Town Manager Shook presented Abigail Taylor from the Burke County United Way with a copy of the proclamation at our meeting last night.

This month’s Storybook Trail book is “The Firefighter” by Jenny Goebel. The story illustrates how firefighters race to the scene as a family gathers their dog and her puppies and heads outside. One puppy is left behind, and it’s up to a brave firefighter to rescue the pup.

After reading the book, families can discuss why firefighters are important members of the community.

Families can also discuss what to do if there is a fire at home or at school.

This book correlates with our October Royal Park Tales where the Icard Township Fire / Rescue will be reading a book and have their fire truck for kids to see. More information about the Royal Park Tales will be shared next week.

Come visit the Hildebran Storybook Trail!
It’s completely ADA compliant.
