Last week we welcomed Cole Fisher, who shared his very inspiring story of working very hard to come back from serious injury, including paralysis, to creating a life of purpose as Assistant Coach for Hatters Baseball. We admire and respect what he’s done for himself and the boys he coaches. Please support the team’s fundraiser to send the boys to spring training in Myrtle Beach! ⚾️

Today was a beautiful day for the District 7430 Race to Zero- End Polio Now. Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years. Our goal of ridding the world of this disease is closer than ever! We've reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979. Rotary members have contributed more than $2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect nearly 3 billion children in 122 countries from this paralyzing disease. Rotary’s advocacy efforts have played a role in decisions by governments to contribute more than $10 billion to the effort. Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan. But it’s crucial to continue working to keep other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

Today we welcomed Kristy Morley, Senior Naturalist with Wissahickon Trails. One of Rotary’s areas of focus is Protecting the Environment by supporting activities that strengthen the conservation and protection of natural resources and advance ecological sustainability. We received a District Grant and will be building 3 chimney swift towers. Kristy gave an engaging presentation on these amazing and important birds. Over the last 50 years, their population has declined more than 70%. In recent years, the rate of decline has accelerated. Their decline is attributed to a decreased availability of insects (their food source), shifts in chimney design, and the capping and demolition of chimneys. Please consider not using pesticides and insecticides and help support this important species of birds.
