Happy International Cat Day! 🎉

Meet the Eurasian Lynx! This species is found throughout temperate regions of Europe and Asia. A thick coat keeps them warm in the colder months, and wide paws act like snowshoes to help them move through the snow!

Leonardo DiCatprio came to us after his previous zoo unexpectedly closed and he needed a new home. Fortunately for us, he is enthusiastic about learning training, socializing with his keepers, and hunting for his diet. He greets his keepers every morning by rubbing and purring along the fenceline. Since he was rescued from the pet trade, he is very fond of his keepers, but he reminds us every day that he is a dangerous, big clawed, sharped toothed, lynx!

Happy 1st Birthday, Tulip and Sprout! 🥳

Tulip and Sprout are capybaras, the world's largest rodents! Endemic to South America, they spend much of their time wading in fresh water or grazing on grasses.

Tulip is head baby in charge! She has designated herself as the main babysitter to all the pups and loves playing with them. Sprout is a little more shy and is happiest when she’s playing in her pool!

Hoppy Kangaroo Day! 🎉

Kangaroos are the largest marsupials, which means that females have a pouch for raising their young. Endemic to Australia and New Guinea, they are in a family known as Macropods. This translates to "big foot!"

Meet our Red Kangaroo mob! Our males (called bucks or boomers) include Regis, Ollie, Jenga, and Westley. Our females (called does or flyers) include Proodence, Gertroode, and Roothie!

Give a SHOUT - It's International Gibbon Day! 📢

Gibbons are small apes endemic to Southeast Asia. There are 20 species, all of which are threatened with extinction due to habitat loss for palm oil, timber, and expanding infrastructure. In addition, the growing demand for gibbons as pets has increased illegal trafficking. Conservation efforts are underway, and you can help by supporting organizations like Gibbon Conservation Society.

Gibbons are known for pair bonding and their harmonized songs which they use to announce their territory. At the Zoo, you can hear siamangs Leela and Merlin sing most mornings, often around 11 am. They can be heard throughout the zoo! 🎶
