Great time at the foundation gala this weekend. Thanks to my classmate/buddy on the invite and for all the work she does at the college. I am glad to see the foundation raise money to help more students take advantage of the many programs they offer, especially since both of my kids are currently taking dual credit courses at their high school through the college.

Since I've been going on about the takeover of HISD for a while now, let me point out that the quickest solution to addressing it is electing a new governor later this year. The Governor is who appoints the Texas Education Agency Commissioner, and the Commissioner is who decides to takeover school districts like HISD and appoint people like Mike Miles.

This is why I'm supporting Rep. Gina Hinojosa to become our next Governor. Gina has already promised to remove the current TEA Commissioner and return local control to districts like HISD (see the video). Also, in light of the recent move by our Governor to withhold money from the City of Houston and other municipalities, I'd say it's past time we elect a new one.

So I encourage you and eveyone else you know in Texas to vote for Gina to become our next Governor. Gina is ready and sorely needed to lead our state in a new direction.
