🎉 Celebrating Carlos Chavez – AFC’s Employee of the Quarter! 🎉

Some of the most important contributions happen behind the scenes, and at Alzheimer’s Family Center, Carlos Chavez is someone who makes a difference every single day! 💙🧡

Carlos goes above and beyond to keep our Center safe, welcoming, and running smoothly. Whether he’s maintaining our facility, coordinating with vendors, supporting special events, or stepping in to help a coworker, Carlos approaches every task with dedication, initiative, and a genuine willingness to help.

But what makes Carlos especially deserving of this recognition is the kindness he shows our patients. Although his role doesn't directly involve patient care, he always makes time for a smile, a friendly word, or a moment of connection. Those small gestures reflect the compassion that makes AFC so special.

His colleagues describe him as dependable, hardworking, thoughtful, and someone who takes tremendous pride in his work. He is a true team player whose contributions touch every corner of our Center.

👏 Please join us in congratulating Carlos on being named our Employee of the Quarter! Thank you, Carlos, for all you do to make AFC a better place for our patients, families, and staff. We are fortunate to have you on our team!

We proudly participated in the 37th Annual Southern California Alzheimer’s Disease Research Conference, presented by UCI MIND, the Alzheimer’s Association, and Alzheimer’s Orange County.

Events like this are an important reminder of how much can be accomplished when research, clinical expertise, community-based care, and family support come together.

We were grateful for the opportunity to connect with colleagues across the dementia-care community, share information about the work happening at Alzheimer’s Family Center, and continue building relationships that help us better serve individuals living with dementia and the families who care for them.

Thank you to UCI MIND, Alzheimer's Association, and Alzheimer's Orange County for bringing our community together for another meaningful conference. 💙🧡 And shoutout to our partners at Silverado Memory Care for stopping by our booth and posing for a quick photo. 📷

On Saturday, August 22, Alzheimer’s Family Center was honored to welcome caregivers for a day devoted entirely to them. 💙

Our Caregiver Wellness Retreat offered a much-deserved opportunity to step away from the demands of caregiving and spend the day focusing on self-care, relaxation, connection, and renewal.

We are incredibly grateful to the community partners, presenters, volunteers, and supporters who helped make this special day possible, including .

Caregivers enjoyed a healthy breakfast prepared by , a delicious lunch provided by .living, inspiring presentations from authors and Jean Courtney, yoga and a restorative sound bath , relaxing chair massages provided by , and gardening activities made possible with supplies generously provided by .

Most importantly, the day was a reminder of something we believe deeply at AFC: caregivers need and deserve care, too.

Thank you to everyone who helped us create a day where caregivers could pause, connect, recharge, and simply be cared for. 🧡

A safe place. A meaningful day. Support for the whole family. That’s Adult Day Health Care. 💙🧡

Adult Day Health Care provides a safe, supportive environment where adults who need additional care and supervision can receive health monitoring, therapeutic activities, cognitive engagement, social connection, exercise, nutritious meals, and more—all while continuing to live at home.

At Alzheimer’s Family Center, our program is specifically designed around the needs of individuals living with dementia. And our care extends to the entire family through education, resources, counseling, support groups, and caregiver support.

For caregivers, it also means something incredibly important: time. Time to work, attend appointments, take care of responsibilities—or simply recharge—knowing their loved one is safe, engaged, and cared for.

It’s more than care. It’s a better day.

This Transportation Services Appreciation Month, we’re shining the spotlight on Jessica, AFC’s new Mobility Manager! 🚌💙

For Jessica, transportation is more than getting from one place to another—it’s an extension of the compassionate care we provide every day. We asked her to share what she’s learning and what matters most in her new role:

1. As our new Mobility Manager, what has surprised or inspired you most since stepping into this role?

“What has inspired me most is seeing how much transportation can impact a patient’s entire day. It’s not just about getting someone to AFC—it’s about helping them arrive safely, comfortably, and ready to participate. I’ve also been surprised by how many moving pieces go into making transportation work, and how much teamwork it takes behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly.”

2. For individuals living with dementia and their caregivers, why is safe, reliable transportation about more than simply getting from one place to another?

“For our patients and their families, reliable transportation provides peace of mind. When a caregiver knows their loved one has a safe and dependable way to get to AFC and back home, it takes away one more thing they have to worry about. For our patients, it also means having the opportunity to stay connected, engaged, and involved in their daily routine.”

3. What do you hope every patient and family feels when they use AFC’s transportation services?

“I hope every patient and family feels that they are cared for and that they can trust us. I want our families to feel confident knowing that their loved one is in good hands from the moment they leave home until they return. Most importantly, I want transportation to feel like an extension of the care we provide at AFC—safe, dependable, and compassionate.”

Thank you, Jessica, for helping ensure that AFC’s care begins before our patients even arrive at our doors—and continues until they are safely home again. 💙
