HEEERE’S JOHN(son grass)NY! 🪓🌾

Johnson grass is a pesky perennial that many farmers and land managers deal with. This invasive species takes up space that would otherwise be occupied by our native prairie plants like golden rod, Indiangrass, and milkweed. 🌟🖼️

If you’ve dealt with Johnson grass, share with your friends who get it, or contact us for management assistance 👻

Did you know? 🤔🍂

Kicked off by these shorter days, Fall is a cool-down period for not just the weather, but a lot of creatures too! You’ve probably seen leaves falling, but what else have you noticed getting ready for the winter? ❄️

One thing you may not notice are seeds being spread by wildlife. Squirrels ground-store acorns, birds eat spicebush berries, and burs stick to deer, rabbits, and coyotes. And remember, Fall is a great time for YOU to plant seeds, too! 🫵

How are you cooling down this Fall? 😌🧑‍🌾🥾🥣

Did you know the Licking River in KY has one of the highest mussel diversities in the world? 😳

Mussels are indicator species of river health. In our recent survey, we found over 20 species in the Licking River at Morning View Heritage Area! Some individuals were over 50 years old. This high diversity means our water is healthy! 💧💚

Special thanks to friends who helped us count and ID mussels at Morning View Heritage Area:
