The Indianapolis Hiking Club hosts 2,000+ hikes per year, and only a fraction of those are mentioned on FB. Guests are welcome on all hikes at no cost.

Please visit our website to obtain a complete schedule at www.indyhike.org. We hope you join us! The Indianapolis Hiking Club was formed by a group of Hoosiers who liked to hike and work on conservation projects, like the completion of the 22 mile Yellowwood Trail in Brown County. In 2011 we scheduled a record 2,262 hikes (more than six a day) and we currently have 600+ members, making us one of the largest hiking organizations in the country.

* There is an area in Southwestway Park where a snapping turtle was observed laying eggs and several nest holes were identified. Community members have suggested leaving that patch unmowed for a while to protect the nests until the eggs have had time to incubate.

Snapping turtles typically lay their eggs in June and early July, often digging flask-shaped nests in open, sunny soil. The nests can look like small disturbed patches or holes in the ground. Females may return to the same nesting areas year after year.

A few of our hikers marked the snapping turtle nesting area with a stake and bright pink ribbon so people can easily spot and avoid the nests. Thank you for helping protect these future little turtles! 🐢💗 Southwestway Park Trail Users

6/15/26, INDIANA TRIPLE CROWN SERIES - FINAL LEG - KNOBSTONE TRAIL HIKE, Leader & Photographer: Theresa Ray

Theresa says, “We successfully finished the last miles of the Knobstone trail today, following two attempts foiled by rain. This milestone also signifies the completion of the Triple Crown for three members of our group. Notably, the Adventure Trail, Tecumseh Trail, and Knobstone were completed within a year. Plans are underway to hike the Adena Trace trail this fall, aiming for a Quad completion in Indiana within a year. Many hikers are close to achieving the Indiana Triple Crown, needing only a few more miles.”

Congratulations to hikers Susan Sievers, Theresa Ray & Steve Hise on this achievement!
