We’re proud to share that our documentary Beyond El Barrio: Early Cultural Contributions to the City of Indianapolis, Seen and Unseen has received a Leadership in History Award from the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH).
Beyond El Barrio tells the story of Indianapolis’ historic Latino neighborhood, El Barrio, highlighting its rich cultural legacy, the impact of displacement caused by interstate construction, and the lasting contributions of Latino communities to our city.
The award honors both the documentary and the May 2025 community launch event, which brought together former residents and community members for a panel discussion and public screening.
This program was made possible through a grant from Indiana Humanities.
