Pictured are three of our amazing “Care Bear” Dispatchers who paused for a quick photo!
We had a great turnout tonight and enjoyed talking with many of the Trick-or-Treaters about the proper use of 9-1-1 and what information to share with a Dispatcher during an emergency.

We also had the chance to chat with several moms and dads about possible career opportunities with Ionia Central Dispatch.

And of course, the prize wheel was a hit again this year—as you can see, this spooky creature gave the bag toss his best shot!

You don't have to wait for one of our events to talk with your children about emergencies and when to call 9‑1‑1. Be sure they know what we will ask: the location of the emergency, including their street address, house numbers, street name, and the city or township they live in. Several roads in our county share the same name but are in different areas, so this information is important.
It’s also helpful for children to know Mom and Dad’s real names (for example, Tom and Mary Smith, not just “Mom” and “Dad”). And of course, they should be ready to explain what the emergency is.

And don’t forget—if you call 9‑1‑1 by accident, don’t hang up. Stay on the line and let us know it was accidental. If you hang up, we must call you back, and if we can’t reach you, we have to send police officers to check that everything is okay.
