It’s that time of year when we start getting the question, “Are you accepting clothing donations?” We’re so thankful you’re thinking of us and looking for ways to help!
Most of the time, we don’t have a need for clothing donations at the shelter—and that’s actually because of some amazing community partnerships. We work closely with Society of St. Vincent de Paul Stores and Encounter Central Station where our clients can receive the clothing they need free of charge. This not only meets immediate needs, but also connects people with long-term support as they prepare to move out of the shelter.
When someone arrives for emergency shelter, they’re able to do laundry right away. Thanks to Henry Ford Jackson Hospital and other generous partners, we also have scrubs available for clients to wear while their clothes are being washed. We then provide bus fare so they can visit St. Vincent or Central Station for any additional clothing they may need at no cost.
If you’re looking to donate clothing, we strongly encourage you to take them to Central Station on N. Webster St. or either SVDP location in Jackson. Your donation makes a real, tangible difference for those staying at JIS and others in our community.
We invite you to share this post to help spread the word!
