Students, staff, and members of the community celebrated White Cane Day on October 15! Our morning plans got rained out, but thanks to our Physical Education staff, students were able to participate in an obstacle course where they used their white cane to navigate through the maze. Later in the afternoon, our College and Career Readiness students led a public rally and celebration at Hedberg Public Library. Students, alumni, and staff were able to spread awareness about the history of White Cane Day and emphasize the importance of accessibility in our communities. Other students made posters and signage for the event. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us!

❤️ It's important to take care of ourselves and each other. Safe, accessible streets are essential for the well-being of all residents, including children, older adults, and people with disabilities.

Pedestrian Safety Month (October) reminds everyone to display safe behavior, both drivers and pedestrians.

🎉 Check out the amazing students and faculty from the Wisconsin Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired who accepted this year's resolution, which proclaims that in the City of Janesville:
âś… October is Pedestrian Safety Month!
âś… October 15 is White Cane Safety Day!

Please be sure to come out to celebrate White Cane Day this Thursday!

Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) Monthly Challenge for Students!

The WCBVI student programing team is excited to offer an opportunity for students to practice areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) this school year. Each month of the school year, a menu of activities will be posted on WCBVI’s Short Course and Student Programming webpage.

All the activities for that month will focus on a different area of the ECC. Students can complete activities individually, with their families, or at school if they are able. For each activity students complete from the menu that month, they can earn an entry to win a prize related to the ECC area that month.

Students will need to submit proof of the activity they complete, which could be done in a variety of ways based on the activity. For the month of September, the ECC area of focus is Self-Determination!
