Fire Prevention Week is October 4–10, 2026. This years focus is on the everyday charging habits that can help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires and keep homes and communities safer.

Plug in. Power up. Stay safe.

Cheap charger? Don't chance it.
Use the cord and charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.

Soft surface? Hard pass.
Charge on a hard, flat surface like a table, desk, or bare floor.

Fully charged? Time to unplug.
Unplug your device when it is fully charged.

For tools and rides, charge outside.
Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible. Do not block exits when charging.

Feels hot? Stop using it.
Stop using your device if it feels very hot, starts to swell, smells strange, leaks, smokes, or makes popping or hissing sounds.

On a flight? Keep it in sight.
When on a plane, keep devices where you can see them while charging. Do not charge e-cigarettes or vapes on the plane. Tell a flight attendant if you notice a problem with your device.

Remember:
Fire prevention starts with awareness. Charge safely, use approved equipment, and recognize the warning signs of battery failure before they become an emergency.
🚒 Stay Alert • Stay Prepared • Prevent Fires 🚒

Jasper County Emergency Services District 4 was proud to be a part of the recent regional Safe-D training held in Orange County over the weekend.

These trainings provide a valuable opportunity for our ESD Board to connect with regional partners, discuss the challenges affecting our communities, and explore ways we can work together to better serve our citizens.

We appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with our neighboring districts and emergency service partners as we continue working to strengthen our communities and provide the best possible service to those we serve

Today, Jasper County ESD 4 had Redline Gear Cleaning on site to service and clean the protective gear our members rely on every time they answer a call.

This is a first for our members, and it represents an important step forward in protecting our firefighters. One of the greatest hazards firefighters face isn’t always the emergency itself—it’s the toxic chemicals and harmful byproducts that can remain on and in our gear long after the call is over.

Advanced cleaning and inspection of our PPE helps reduce those exposures, keeps our firefighters safer, and ensures our protective equipment is properly maintained. It also helps extend the service life of our gear, allowing us to get the most out of this critical equipment while maintaining the protection our members depend on.

We’re proud to invest in the health, safety, and longevity of our firefighters and the equipment that protects them.

Thank you to Redline Gear Cleaning for helping us take this important step forward. 🚒🧑‍🚒
