🎃🚒 HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM THE KAHOKA/CLARK COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENTS! 🚒🎃

Tonight, our streets will be filled with ghosts, goblins, superheroes, witches, and plenty of excited trick-or-treaters! 👻🍬

Before everyone heads out for a night of Halloween fun, we want to remind our community to KEEP SAFETY PART OF THE ADVENTURE!

🎃 TRICK-OR-TREAT SAFETY:
🔦 Carry a flashlight or glow stick and make sure drivers can see you.
🚸 Cross streets at intersections and look LEFT — RIGHT — LEFT before crossing.
🚗 Drivers — SLOW DOWN! Expect children to be crossing streets and walking through neighborhoods.
🔥 Keep costumes, decorations, and pumpkins away from open flames.
🔋 Use battery-operated candles or glow sticks inside jack-o’-lanterns whenever possible.
👻 Make sure costumes fit properly to help prevent trips and falls.
🍬 Parents — check your children’s candy before they dig in!

🚒 And remember: Never walk between parked vehicles or assume a driver can see you.

We hope everyone throughout Kahoka and Clark County has a fun, spooky, and SAFE Halloween!

Through late Thursday, rainfall rates in excess of 2 inches per hour are possible with the strongest thunderstorms. Rainfall amounts of 1-3 inches are possible in the watch area (west-central and southwest Missouri), with localized amounts potentially exceeding 5 inches. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall may cause flooding of rivers, creeks/streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone areas. Most flash flooding deaths are victims in vehicles. ALWAYS TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN!

Please stay weather aware. If you come to a roadway flooded please contact the Clark County Sheriff Office and report it 660-727-2915.

Turn around don’t drown

The flash flood risk is increasing across northern missouri starting late tomorrow through Thursday. Multiple rounds of storms should produce a solid area of 3"-5" rain totals with small pockets of higher totals possible. This does not appear to be a 10" event but 8" or so total does look possible. The next major front and severe risk is already on the calendar, subscribers got the update last night. Ill post here after work.

🔥🚨 ELEVATED FIRE DANGER – MONDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2026 🚨🔥

⚠️ KAHOKA / CLARK COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENTS – FIRE DANGER WARNING ⚠️

With the recent dry weather and lack of rainfall, the Kahoka/Clark County Fire Departments want to remind everyone to use EXTREME CAUTION when it comes to outdoor burning and activities that could spark a fire.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, elevated fire danger is expected Monday. Dry vegetation and weather conditions could allow fires to spread quickly and unpredictably.

🚫🔥 PLEASE AVOID ALL OUTDOOR BURNING! 🔥

We strongly encourage everyone throughout Kahoka and Clark County to hold off on burning brush piles, leaves, trash, grass, or other materials until conditions improve and we receive some much-needed rainfall.

🚒 HELP US PREVENT WILDFIRES:

✅ Avoid outdoor burning – Even a small controlled fire can quickly become uncontrollable in dry conditions.

✅ Watch your ci******es – Never throw cigarette butts out of vehicle windows or onto dry grass.
✅ Be cautious with equipment – Hot exhaust, dragging trailer chains, and machinery can produce sparks that ignite dry vegetation.

✅ Avoid parking on dry grass – Hot exhaust systems can easily start grass fires.

✅ Monitor previous burn areas – Old brush piles and burn sites can hold hot embers and reignite, even days later.

✅ Report fires immediately – If you see an uncontrolled fire or smoke that appears suspicious, call 911.

⚠️ REMEMBER: JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN CONTROL A FIRE WHEN YOU START IT DOES NOT MEAN YOU CAN CONTROL IT WHEN CONDITIONS CHANGE!

Our firefighters are always ready to respond, but preventing fires before they start is the best way to protect our community, homes, farmland, livestock, and emergency responders.

Please report all control burns to Clark County Sheriff Office (660-727-2915). This helps keep the fire departments from not being tied up with non emergency calls.

🙏 We ask everyone in Clark County to do their part. Please use common sense, avoid unnecessary burning, and help keep our communities safe!

🔥🚒 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK — SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2026 🚒🔥

As Fire Prevention Week comes to a close, the Kahoka/Clark County Fire Departments want to leave everyone with one final challenge:

⚡🔋 CHARGE INTO FIRE SAFETY™ 🔋⚡
🦸 SAFE CHARGING IS A SUPERPOWER!

We’ve talked all week about the rechargeable devices we use every day. Now it’s time to put those lessons into action!

🔥 USE YOUR CHARGING SUPERPOWERS:

🔌 USE THE RIGHT CHARGER
Use the charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.

🪵 CHARGE ON A HARD, FLAT SURFACE
Keep phones, tablets, laptops, and other devices off beds, couches, pillows, and blankets while charging.

🔋 FULLY CHARGED? UNPLUG IT!
Once your device reaches a full charge, disconnect it.

🛠️ TOOLS & RIDES — THINK BIGGER
When possible, charge larger batteries like those in e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside, and never block an exit.

⚠️ KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS
Unusual heat, swelling, leaking, strange smells, popping, hissing, or smoke can mean something is wrong. STOP USING THE DEVICE.

🏠 TODAY’S CHALLENGE:
Walk through your home, garage, and shop and check your charging areas. Look at your chargers, cords, batteries, and where your devices are being charged.

🔥 One small change today could help prevent a fire tomorrow.

Fire Prevention Week may end tonight, but FIRE SAFETY DOESN’T END HERE.

Take what you’ve learned this week and make safe charging part of your everyday routine.

🚒🔥 FIRE SAFETY STARTS WITH OUR YOUNGEST GENERATION! 🔥🚒

Today, the Kahoka/Clark County Fire Departments had the opportunity to visit Black Hawk School and spend some time with the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students talking about the importance of FIRE SAFETY! 👨‍🚒🚒

🔥 Chief Wood and Assistant Chief Harrison spent time with the students discussing important fire safety tips that could one day save a life!

🚨 Chief Wood reminded students about two VERY important things:

✅ TEST YOUR SMOKE ALARMS! Make sure your family checks smoke alarms regularly to ensure they are working properly.

✅ HAVE A FIRE ESCAPE PLAN! Talk with your family about what to do if a fire happens in your home. Know two ways out when possible, practice your escape plan, and have a safe meeting place outside!

💦🚒 AND OF COURSE, WE HAD TO HAVE A LITTLE FUN!

The students also got to enjoy a water demonstration, giving them an up-close look at a little of what firefighters do!

👨‍🚒 Fire prevention doesn’t stop at the fire station — it starts at home! We encourage every student to go home, share what they learned, and challenge their families to test their smoke alarms and practice their fire escape plans!

❤️ A HUGE THANK YOU to Black Hawk School, the teachers, and all the amazing students for welcoming us! We had a great time answering questions, sharing safety tips, and spending time with the kids!

🔥🚒 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK — FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2026 🚒🔥

It’s Friday, and the Kahoka/Clark County Fire Departments are continuing Fire Prevention Week with another simple habit that can help prevent a fire.

⚡🔋 CHARGE INTO FIRE SAFETY 🔋⚡
🦸 SAFE CHARGING IS A SUPERPOWER™

🔋 TODAY’S MESSAGE: FULLY CHARGED? TIME TO UNPLUG!

We charge devices every day — phones, tablets, laptops, power tools, toys, watches, headphones, and more.

But when that battery reaches 100%…

🔌 UNPLUG IT!

Leaving a device plugged in after it is fully charged can increase heat and put additional stress on the battery.

🔥 MAKE SAFE CHARGING A HABIT:

✅ Unplug devices when they’re fully charged.

✅ Use the charger that came with the device or one approved by the manufacturer.

✅ Charge on a hard, flat surface.

❌ Don’t charge phones or other devices on beds, couches, pillows, or blankets.

👀 Watch for excessive heat, swelling, strange smells, leaking, smoke, popping, or hissing.

⚠️ If something doesn’t look, smell, sound, or feel right — STOP USING IT!

Before you head to bed tonight, take a walk around your home.

📱 Is a phone sitting on the charger at 100%?
💻 Is a laptop still plugged in?
🧰 Is a tool battery sitting on its charger?

FULLY CHARGED = TIME TO UNPLUG.

It only takes a few seconds, but developing good charging habits can help protect your home and family.

🚒 Kahoka/Clark County Fire Departments

⚡ PLUG IN. POWER UP. UNPLUG WHEN FULL.
🔥 SMALL CHANGES CAN HELP PREVENT BIG FIRES.

🔥🚒 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK — THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2026 🚒🔥

The Kahoka/Clark County Fire Departments are continuing Fire Prevention Week with an important message for your garage, shop, and home.

⚡🔋 CHARGE INTO FIRE SAFETY 🔋⚡
🦸 SAFE CHARGING IS A SUPERPOWER™

🛠️ TODAY’S MESSAGE: FOR TOOLS & RIDES — CHARGE OUTSIDE!

Lithium-ion batteries aren’t just in our phones. They’re also powering larger equipment we use every day:

🔋 Power tools
🚲 E-bikes
🛴 Electric scooters
🌱 Battery-powered lawn equipment
🧰 Other rechargeable tools and equipment

These larger batteries store more energy, which means a battery fire can become serious very quickly.

🔥 CHARGE SMART:

✅ Charge larger battery-powered equipment outside when possible.

🚪 NEVER BLOCK AN EXIT with a charging device, battery, e-bike, scooter, or other equipment.

🔌 Always use the manufacturer-approved charger for the battery.

🧱 Charge on a hard, flat surface and away from anything that can burn.

👀 Watch for excessive heat, swelling, leaking, strange odors, popping, hissing, or smoke.

⚠️ If a battery shows warning signs, STOP USING IT!

Before plugging in that power-tool battery tonight, take a look around your garage or shop.

Is it charging in a safe place? Could it block your way out if something went wrong?

A few seconds of thought before plugging in can make a BIG difference.
