Water Usage Notice – West Side of Hwy 181

Residents on the west side of Highway 181: please limit your water usage until noon tomorrow (Thursday, Oct. 29) while we replace the Poplar Lift Station.

A bypass pump is in place, but we need to keep flow within its capacity. Please hold off on laundry, dishwashers, long showers, and other heavy water use until the work is complete.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation!

If the work finishes early, a short “all clear” follow-up post will let people know they can go back to normal use.

🚨🔥 IMPORTANT NOTICE — LITHIUM BATTERIES ARE CAUSING FIRES AT OUR COUNTY LANDFILL! 🔥🚨

The City of Keiser is asking all residents to PLEASE STOP putting lithium batteries and items containing lithium batteries in your household trash!

These batteries are causing fires at our county landfill at an alarming rate! When lithium batteries are crushed, punctured, or damaged during trash collection or at the landfill, they can ignite and cause dangerous fires.

⚠️ Common household items containing lithium batteries include:

Cell phones, tablets, and laptops

Rechargeable power tools and batteries

Electric toothbrushes and razors

Wireless earbuds and headphones

Rechargeable flashlights

Battery-powered toys

Portable chargers and power banks

E-cigarettes and disposable vapes

Some watches, key fobs, and small electronic devices

☠️ THESE FIRES ARE ALSO A SERIOUS HEALTH HAZARD!

When lithium batteries catch fire, they can release toxic fumes and hazardous gases into the air. These fumes can be dangerous to landfill employees, firefighters, nearby residents, and our environment. This is not just a landfill problem — it is a public health and safety concern that affects us all!

💰 THESE FIRES COULD COST ALL OF US!

Every landfill fire creates safety hazards, damages equipment, and increases operating expenses. If we cannot get these fires under control, our landfill disposal fees could increase, and those additional costs could ultimately be passed along to our residents through higher garbage rates.

♻️ WHAT ARE WE DOING ABOUT IT?

In the near future, the City of Keiser will be installing a battery disposal collection box at City Hall to give residents a convenient location to properly dispose of accepted household batteries.

Until that collection box is available, PLEASE DO NOT place lithium batteries or devices containing them in your household garbage! Keep undamaged batteries in a safe location away from heat and flammable materials until they can be taken to an approved battery collection facility. Damaged or swollen batteries require special handling.

🚒 Let's work together to prevent fires, protect our sanitation workers, reduce toxic fumes, safeguard our environment, and keep garbage collection costs under control.

A little extra effort from each household can make a BIG difference for our entire community!

Another Major Step Forward for Keiser’s Sewer System!

Our new Jefferson Street and Poplar Street Lift Stations have arrived and are scheduled to be installed next week!

These new lift stations represent another major improvement in the reliability and efficiency of our city's sewer system.

Once installation is complete, we will move into the next phase of our sewer improvement project — rehabilitating manholes and replacing aging sewer lines throughout the city.

We are making improvements that have been needed for decades. When this project is complete, Keiser will have a much more dependable sewer system for the first time in many, many years.

This is a major investment in Keiser's infrastructure and our community's future!

Another Major Improvement for Keiser!

Today, I signed the contract for Phase IV of our Sewer Improvement Project!

This phase will include replacing the lift stations on Poplar Street and Jefferson Street. Once completed, all of Keiser’s lift stations will have been replaced with new, modern equipment, greatly improving the reliability and efficiency of our sewer system for years to come.

Work is scheduled to begin next week and is expected to take approximately 7 to 10 days.

These improvements are another important step in upgrading our city’s aging infrastructure and providing dependable services for our residents.

⚠️ Culvert Work in the Circle Area

Contractors will be replacing culverts across the road at several points in the Circle area. This work will temporarily close certain entry points and create one‑lane traffic in sections.

Please use caution when traveling through these areas and be mindful of workers and equipment.

Thank you for your patience as these improvements are made.

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Rodney “Neal” Brown, a devoted public servant and longtime Director of Public Works for the City of Keiser.

Neal was more than an employee — he was part of the very fabric of this community. For many years, he dedicated himself fully to the people of Keiser, working with pride, purpose, and a deep love for the town he called home. His commitment was unwavering. Even as he faced the difficult challenges of cancer and COPD, Neal continued to serve, continued to show up, and continued to give everything he had to the citizens he cared for so deeply.

His work touched every corner of Keiser. The roads, the infrastructure, the day‑to‑day operations that keep a city running Neal had a hand in all of it. He carried a quiet strength, a steady presence, and a genuine heart for service that will be profoundly missed.

Neal leaves behind a void that will not be easily filled. His knowledge, his dedication, and his love for this community were unmatched. We honor his life, his service, and the legacy he leaves behind.

Thank you, Neal, for all you did for the community we love. Your impact will endure, and your memory will remain a guiding example of what true public service looks like.
