Last Friday, our community came together for the Poverty Simulation in Chester County to gain a deeper understanding of the difficult choices families facing economic insecurity navigate every day.

Through this powerful, hands-on experience, participants built empathy, strengthened their understanding, and reflected on the changes needed to create a more equitable community.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this meaningful event possible. 💙

The Poverty Simulation is built directly from the real, documented experiences of families across Chester County — the actual trade-offs between rent, groceries, medication, and transportation that households navigate every month.

For one hour, you'll step into one of those households. You'll make the same impossible calls they make, in real time, with the same limited resources. There's no winning move — that's the point. It's a structured, facilitated experience designed to build genuine understanding of what economic insecurity does to a family, not to entertain.

Participants consistently leave with a clearer, more human picture of poverty — and a stronger sense of what needs to change.

📚 Building Financial Confidence in Our Community!

United Way of Southern Chester County is excited to introduce our new Financial Education Training Series, an initiative designed to help participants build financial knowledge, develop healthy savings habits, and work toward greater financial stability.

Made possible through the support of Citadel Credit Union and Oxford Area Neighborhood Services Center (NSC), this five-week program will provide participants with financial education and the opportunity to strengthen their savings. Participants who complete the program will have the opportunity to receive up to a $1,000 savings match.

🚙 Introducing Ride United!

Transportation should never be a barrier to accessing the essentials. United Way of Southern Chester County is excited to introduce Ride United: Transportation Access, a new program designed to help local residents get where they need to go.

Eligible Southern Chester County residents can request free Lyft rides for qualifying needs, including employment, medical care, access to healthy food, education, housing, and other essential services.

Getting started is simple! Complete an eligibility application, and once approved (typically within 48 business hours), you’ll receive a text when your driver is on the way. No Lyft app is required.

Together, we’re helping our neighbors overcome transportation barriers and access the opportunities and services they need to thrive.
