"Berea man sentenced for compelling prostitution of a minor and fleeing from the police.
On June 28, 2026, while conducting an undercover investigation on popular social media platforms combating child s*xual exploitation, a Detective of the Kirtland Police Department (KPD) encountered an adult male seeking to engage in s*x for hire with a minor female. This male was later identified as Vishwatej R. Nath (45yo) of Berea, Ohio. Over the course of three days, Nath maintained communication with the minor profile, inquiring about parental supervision, school schedule, work schedules, and making arrangements for a private encounter. On June 30, 2026, after soliciting the minor profile to engage in s*x for money, Nath drove to the City of Kirtland where he was intercepted by officers of the KPD. Upon initial contact with law enforcement, Nath fled, provoking a short pursuit. As a result of a coordinated effort by officers of the KPD, the pursuit ended without incident and Nath was taken into custody. Nath was subsequently charged with,
Promoting Prostitution, a felony of the 3rd degree
Attempted unlawful s*xual conduct with a minor, a felony of the 4th degree
Importuning, a felony of the 5th degree
Failure to Comply, a felony of the 4th degree
Possession of criminal tools, a felony of the 5th degree
On August 3, 2026, Nath pled guilty to amended charges of Compelling Prostitution, a felony of the 3rd degree, and Failure to Comply With an Order or Signal of a Police Officer, a felony of the 4th degree.
On September 21, 2026, the Honorable Judge Patrick Condon of the Lake County Court of Common Pleas sentenced Nath to 140 days in the Lake County Jail with credit for 80 days served and 5 years of community control sanctions. Nath was ordered to enter and complete the River City Correctional Center Sexual Offender Specific Program and to follow all recommendations of the institution. As a result of this conviction, Nath was designated a tier II s*xual offender with duties to register for 25 years. Two cell phones seized from Nath and the funds intended for the minor were forfeited to the Kirtland Police Department.
This investigation was made possible by the support of the Ohio ICAC Task Force, Solon Police Department, Garfield Heights Police Department, and the Lake & Cuyahoga County Prosecutors’ Offices. Multiple electronic devices were seized in connection with this investigation and required forensic analysis by partner agencies. Additional search warrants were executed and electronic data analyzed by members of the investigation division of the KPD."
