Buckthorn can be a thorn in everyone’s side here in Lake County, especially for municipal public works teams who manage and maintain public lands.

The County recently partnered with the Delta Institute to host a Buckthorn Removal Training, where local crews learned how to identify and properly remove this invasive plant to help restore healthier natural areas.

Buckthorn is a big challenge here in Lake County. An estimated 53% of Lake County’s 8.8 million trees are European buckthorn, which crowds out native vegetation and makes it harder to restore healthy tree canopies. Thanks to all the municipalities who took part in the training and is helping make a difference in our local environment!

Every story matters, and every Veteran’s experience deserves to be remembered.
To participate, register by October 28, email [email protected], or call 847-377-3727.
