BREAKING: House Democrats just released a 50-page report on Trump's alleged involvement in the Epstein files and are calling for an independent special counsel
House Judiciary Committee Democrats have put their case in writing, and it's a big one.
On Monday, they released an unsigned staff report of more than 50 pages laying out what they call the case against Donald Trump emerging in the Epstein files, and the Justice Department's desperate efforts to cover it up, according to MS NOW.
The report alleges that Trump was an active participant in Jeffrey Epstein's abuse of young women in the mid-to-late 1990s. A Democratic source told MS NOW the report draws on publicly available accounts as well as conversations with survivors. It includes at least one new allegation, though MS NOW reports it rests on the woman's own conversations with committee staff.
The White House says none of the allegations are true. Trump has long denied any sexual misconduct and says he knew nothing about Epstein's crimes.
But the report goes further than allegations. It compares Trump's statements about Epstein over the years with emails, deposition transcripts, his own public statements, and his drawings and signatures, and it highlights discrepancies, including inconsistencies in what Trump has said about his awareness of Epstein's crimes.
It also targets the Justice Department.
The report suggests that DOJ officials, including Attorney General Todd Blanche, are doing everything they can to keep the American people in the dark. It says Blanche may have engaged in criminal obstruction of justice while acting on a mission to protect Trump, and that his meeting with Ghislaine Maxwell potentially constituted witness tampering.
This isn't coming out of nowhere. In June, a federal judge found that Blanche had effectively conceded the Justice Department was in violation of the Epstein Files Transparency Act by not producing certain unredacted and foreign-language documents. DOJ is appealing. Blanche says the department undertook a Herculean task and met its obligations.
Rep. Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the committee, said the women who survived Epstein deserve to be heard. He called for Congress to get the complete files required by law, and for an independent special counsel to investigate Epstein's co-conspirators and DOJ's cover-up.
Survivors have waited years for answers, and now the demand for them is formally on the record.
