The SHRHS Pathways Program is excited to introduce its Guest Speaker Series, designed to expose students to a variety of career journeys and demonstrate that there is no single path to professional success. Kicking off the series is SHRHS Principal Mr. Wright, whose professional journey took several unexpected turns. The interview was conducted by Mr. McManus, SHRHS Pathways Coordinator, who guided the conversation to help students better understand the experiences, decisions, and opportunities that shaped Mr. Wright’s career. While finishing high school and attending college, Mr. Wright began working in mortgage banking while earning his degree in Criminal Justice, originally intending to pursue a career in law enforcement. His experience led him to management positions overseeing bankruptcy, foreclosure, and loss mitigation departments at several Long Island mortgage banks before eventually transitioning into education and school administration.
In addition to sharing his career journey, Mr. Wright emphasized the importance of financial literacy and making informed decisions that can shape one's future. Drawing on his experience in mortgage banking, he discussed planning for the purchase of a first home, understanding the responsibilities of homeownership, and making smart financial choices to help avoid the risk of losing a home. The conversation provided students with valuable real-world lessons while reinforcing the message that career paths can evolve over time and that the skills and experiences gained along the way can open doors to unexpected opportunities.
The SHRHS Pathways Guest Speaker Series will continue to introduce students to professionals with diverse backgrounds and experiences, helping them explore their interests, discover new possibilities, and recognize the many different routes to a fulfilling and successful career.
