Stefanie Angstadt founded Valley Milkhouse Creamery in 2014 after falling in love with the art of cheesemaking while apprenticing for a goat dairy in Colorado.

Local buyers allowed her to grow her business and expand into stores across the country. That’s the power of buying local and supporting local farm families.

Did you know eggplants are a fruit? 🍆

These members of the nightshade family are related to tomatoes, potatoes, and peppers. While you usually see their deep purple color, they also come in white, green, and striped varieties. In Pennsylvania, eggplants are harvested throughout the summer and early fall.

Eggplants are also very versatile in the kitchen! Swipe to see one of our favorite eggplant recipes: eggplant over rice! It comes from the 2006 Oley Valley Community Fair cookbook, showing that some delicious dishes never go out of style.

You can find locally grown eggplants and other favorites at a farmer’s market or farm stand near you.

Red, yellow, and green. No, we’re not talking about a stoplight, we’re talking about apples!

While you have seen these colors of apples, maybe you don’t know the difference between them. Green apples, like Granny Smith, tend to be very tart and crisp, while redder apples, like Red Delicious or Honeycrisp, are sweeter and juicier. Yellow apples like Golden Delicious sit perfectly between the two, offering a mellow sweetness.

Whether you’re eating one or baking with apples, there are dozens of varieties grown in Berks County waiting for you to try!

Make sure you pick up your favorite apple varieties today!
