Florida’s freshwater springs are an important part of our natural heritage. They support wildlife, attract visitors, and offer great opportunities for outdoor recreation year-round.

That’s why I was proud to announce $100 million for a total of 45 projects to restore Florida’s springsheds and expand our state’s clean water supply. These strategic investments will build on the progress we’ve made in protecting our natural resources and improving water quality in communities across Florida, so that we can leave this state to God better than we found it.

Happy Florida Forests Week!

Florida’s forests do more than provide beautiful places to explore - they help protect water quality, support wildlife, and contribute to the health of our springs, rivers, and aquifer. This week, we celebrate the vital role forests play in keeping North Florida’s natural resources healthy for generations to come.

New US Drought Monitor report released this morning shows some improvement for the District. This is the first time this year the District hasn't had some amount of Extreme or Exceptional drought conditions, and some areas show no drought conditions at all.

Recent rainfall is definitely helping. However, there remains some level of drought across much of the District, and we continue to encourage everyone to maintain their water conservation measures. The District's Modified Phase II Water Shortage Order remains in place through the end of the year.

A rainy start to the month of October is more than welcome. Rainfall totals through the first 11 days this month are more than double the long-term monthly average for October. This increased rainfall is helping improve our drought conditions and groundwater deficit. With the possibility of a wetter-than average few months ahead due to the strong El Niño, we anticipate groundwater conditions will continue to improve. In the meantime, we continue to ask everyone to maintain their water conservation efforts.
