The Ohio Power Siting Board once again ignored the overwhelming will of the citizens of Madison County and the unanimous will of the elected officials they put in office by voting 7-2 to re-approve the Oak Run Solar Project. The sole opposing votes were cast by Madison County's ad hoc representatives, Commissioner Chris Wallace and Somerford Township Trustee Jim Moran.

In May, the Ohio Supreme Court sent the case back to the Power Siting Board due to missing application requirements. Since then, Oak Run Solar has only continued to cut corners.

Rather than submitting the required visual impact simulations as an amendment to the application, Oak Run submitted them as testimony. Doing so avoided the need for public notice and hearing requirements and weakened future enforcement.

The Supreme Court clearly viewed the visual impacts and the enforceable protection of local residents as crucial to application approval. Rather than a robust process to ensure those rights were protected, Oak Run Solar simply went through the motions and the Power Siting Board rubber stamped it.

I do not believe this process upheld the letter or the spirit of the Supreme Court's order.

We will be taking this up urgently, and I will advocate pursuing any and all recourse, including seeking additional relief from the Supreme Court.

It's not over yet.

The Ohio Power Siting Board will vote on Oak Run Solar tomorrow, Thursday September 17th. The meeting begins at 1:30p, Oak Run is the first item on the agenda, and a live stream of the proceedings is available at the below link.

Power Siting Board staff recommended re-approval. The full Board can still reject the staff's recommendation and deny the project. One way or the other, I will have more to communicate after tomorrow's vote.

The Madison County Farmland Preservation Plan was first adopted in 1999 and last updated in 2011. A lot has changed since then, but preserving our farmland and natural resources remains a top priority and perhaps a greater need than ever before.

The kickoff meeting is tonight; it's open to the public and anyone who would like to contribute to the work of the Farmland Preservation task force over the next many months.

Thank you to all those who attended the recent public review meetings for the Madison County Comprehensive Land Use Plan and the Madison County Zoning Resolution. Approximately 100 residents attended and provided valuable feedback on the proposed updates to these documents.

The next hearing for both documents is tomorrow evening, July 14th at 7:30p at the Regional Planning Commission meeting at the county engineer's office (825 US 42 NE, London, OH 43140). The Commission will consider and vote on whether or not to approve the documents.

Then, the Zoning Resolution will go to the Rural Zoning Commission for a hearing and possible approval at their meeting on July 21st (7:30p at the engineer's office as well).

Lastly, the two documents are currently expected to come before the county commissioners for possible final approval at the July 28th commissioners meeting.

In a June 18th post below, I shared the link to view a map with the latest version of the proposed updates to the Comprehensive Plan.

Below is a link to view the latest draft of the Zoning Resolution.

There's nothing quite like walking in a 4th of July parade to witness love of country and of community. Walking past hundreds of friends, neighbors, and fellow citizens, many of whom are waving flags or donning patriotic attire, is truly inspiring.

Neither America nor Madison County are without their challenges. But there's not another country in the world or county in the state I'd rather live in.

Despite these challenges, I am profoundly hopeful about our future. And it's largely because of the hundreds of people we walked past and waved to today that I remain so hopeful. Thank you for being a part of that bright future.

After the parade, the commissioners planted a white oak tree on the courthouse lawn. The white oak's centuries-long lifespan symbolizes our nation's and our community's strength and endurance.

Happy 4th of July, everyone! Happy 250th, America! May God continue to richly bless America and Madison County!

Each time I walk into the courthouse to serve and represent the residents of Madison County, I am filled with the awesome weight of this responsibility and a deep sense of gratitude. Walking in under this glorious flag over the past week or so has only amplified those emotions. What a beautiful county, what a wonderful country we are blessed to live in!

My family and I eagerly await this weekend's community festivities and wish you and your family a safe and very happy celebration of America's 250th birthday!
