🎃 Clean Out Your Cabinet Before the Goblins Come Knocking! 👻

Halloween is all about treats, so let’s make sure the only goodies around the house are the candy kind! 🍬 Clearing out unused or expired medications is a simple way to keep our homes, families, and little monsters safe.

Missed Take Back Day? No tricks needed. Los Alamos has drop-off spots all year round!

📍 Where to drop off:

🚓 Los Alamos Police Department, 2500 Trinity Dr. (lobby, open 24/7). Use the lobby wall phone to call dispatch and an officer will help you.
🏪 Smith’s Pharmacy, 751 Trinity Dr. (during pharmacy hours)
🏪 Nambe Drugs, 111 Central Park Square (during pharmacy hours)

✅ Bring: pills, tablets, and capsules (prescription or over-the-counter)
🚫 Please don’t bring: sharps, needles, inhalers, or liquid medications. These are typically excluded from standard drop boxes.

🔒 Bonus tip: Keep the medications you still need in a secure spot and keep track of how many you have. Kind of like guarding the good candy! 🍫

Here’s something to celebrate: the vast majority of Los Alamos teens make healthy choices about medications. Together, we can keep it that way! 🧡

Have a happy and safe Halloween Week, Los Alamos! 🦇

🎗️ It’s Red Ribbon Week (Oct. 23–31)! Most teens choose not to use drugs, and their families play a big part in that choice.

This week, try a quick, low-pressure check-in about fentanyl and fake pills. Short, calm conversations that happen more than once are what help most.

Natural High’s free parent toolkit can help you start. It has short videos for ages 11 and up and discussion questions. Some of the videos cover loss, so you may want to watch them first.

🧡 Happy Unity Day, LAPS! 🧡

Today our schools are glowing orange as students and staff celebrate kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Every orange shirt, sock, and smile is a reminder that everyone belongs here.

Thank you, students, for the many ways you show up for each other. And remember, you always have a plan with Stop, Walk & Talk:
✋ STOP: Use a calm, clear voice to say "stop"
🚶 WALK: Walk away
💬 TALK: Talk to a trusted adult

Reaching out is a strength. Our counselors, teachers, and staff are here for students and families anytime, so please don't hesitate to connect with your school.

October is National Fire Prevention Month. LAPS would like to thank the Los Alamos Fire Department for visiting elementary schools to teach students about fire safety and what to do if there is a fire.

The golden rule of fire safety is “Get out, stay out, and call for help.”

This week is National School Bus Safety Week. Thank you to the transportation staff, including our dedicated bus drivers and bus assistants, who keep students safe on every trip, whether it is a field trip, sport or activity trip, or the every day rides to and from school.

Safety first! Every ride counts.
