DIBOLL AND LUFKIN PD PURSUIT AND ARREST SUNDAY NIGHT:
A Brazoria County man is in the Angelina County Jail following a high-speed chase Sunday night that began with an attempted traffic stop by Diboll Police on the Diboll bypass and ended near the intersection of Chestnut Street and South Medford Drive.
Randale Maynard, 54, was arrested and charged with assault of a peace officer, obstruction or retaliation, evading arrest/detention with vehicle, reckless driving, failure to identify by giving false/fictitious information, parole violation, assault causes bodily injury, and resisting arrest, search/transportation.
Bond of $10,000 has been set on the assault causes bodily injury.
The incident began around 10:15 p.m. Sunday when Diboll Police officers attempted to stop Maynard on the Diboll bypass for speeding, 90 miles per hour in a 70-mph zone. As the pursuit reached Lufkin City limits, at speeds up to 100 mph, Diboll called for assistance from Lufkin officers.
The pursuit entered the Lufkin city limits and Maynard took the South Medford Drive exit and headed toward Chestnut Street.
Lufkin Officer Lance Standridge got in front of the pursuit just north of the intersection of Chestnut and South Medford and in position to put out spikes to stop the vehicle. However, Maynard took the Chestnut exit, crossed the intersection of Chestnut, lost control, left the roadway and then crashed into a tree behind a church.
Standridge ran toward the crash to locate the suspects and/or other occupants. As he approached Wallace Street, he saw a subject jumping from the tree line into the ditch. He approached the area and found Maynard lying in the ditch face up. The officer told Maynard to stop and show his hands. Maynard refused to comply with orders from the officer and a short foot pursuit took place. Maynard actively resisted arrest and assaulted Officer Standridge. Other officers arrived, and a DPS Trooper deployed his taser, striking Maynard. Officers were then able to handcuff Maynard.
Other officers arrived, and a DPS Trooper deployed his taser, striking the suspect. Officers were then able to handcuff Maynard.
Diboll Police officers placed Maynard under arrest and booked him into the Angelina County Jail.
Two vehicles traveling on South Medford were damaged by the fleeing vehicle. No injuries were reported by those drivers.

REMINDER - PD TO FOCUS ON NOISE ISSUES
Lufkin Police Department will begin next week issuing citations and warnings in an effort to reduce loud and disturbing noise generated by vehicles and music in the downtown area and in neighborhoods.
The Texas Penal Code and the City of Lufkin address noise issues and provides for the issuing of warnings and citations by officers.
The first notice of this plan was posted Sept. 12. We want residents to know this will begin next week and understand the laws.
By definition in the Texas Penal Code, a noise is presumed to be unreasonable if the noise exceeds a decibel level of 85 after the person making the noise receives a notice from a peace officer that the noise is a nuisance.
There are three statutes impacting noise:
Texas Penal Code under Disorderly Conduct – a person commits an offense if he intentionally or knowingly makes an unreasonable noise in a public place or in or near a private residence that the person has no right to occupy.
Texas Transportation Code Muffler Requirement – a motor vehicle shall be equipped with a muffler in good working condition that continually operates to prevent excessive or unusual noise. A person may not use a muffler cutout, by-pass or similar device on a motor vehicle.
City of Lufkin Noise Ordinance – Noise is defined in the ordinance as unreasonably loud, unnecessary, or disturbing sound or vibration emanating from an electronic source that is audible for 50 feet.
“Residents have told us that noise is an issue in our community,” Lufkin Police Chief Travis Brazil said. “So, we are providing an explanation of what is considered loud noise. We will be working to solve it."
