🐢Last week, MRRI attended the annual terrapin meeting with Project Terrapin, joining fellow research and conservationists to share updates, exchange knowledge, and discuss ongoing efforts to protect New Jersey’s diamondback terrapins.

MRRI Senior Scientist Drew McQuade presented an update on our 2026 terrapin research in the Meadowlands, highlighting our team’s continued work to better understand these unique turtles and the habitats they depend on.

Diamondback terrapins are an important part of New Jersey’s coastal ecosystem, and collaborating among researchers and conservation groups helps advance the science needed to protect them.

Thank you to Project Terrapin for bringing everyone together and for their continued dedication to terrapin research, education, and conservation.

NJSEA & MRRI are advancing regional resilience in the New Jersey Meadowlands with NY-NJ HEP!

The New York/New Jersey Harbor & Estuary Program (HEP) has awarded $350,000 in new grants to support community-driven resilience planning across the Hudson-Raritan Estuary, including a project focused on the New Jersey Meadowlands.

As part of the Meadowlands project, Rutgers University’s Center for Urban Policy Research and the New Jersey Climate Change Resource Center will collaborate with the Research & Restoration Institute (MRRI), a part of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA), and P3 Collaborative.

Together, the team will develop a regional flood hazard vulnerability assessment and pilot a consensus building framework to help communities navigate complex flood resilience decisions across municipal boundaries.
