🏛️ WHO REALLY RUNS THE CITY OF LYONS?

Ever wondered how our city government actually works? Who makes the decisions? What does the Mayor do? And where does the City Council fit in?

Understanding how our local government operates is important because the decisions made at City Hall affect every one of us!

In this video, Mayor Alicia Hommon breaks down the structure of Lyons city government and explains the different roles and responsibilities of our elected officials and city administration.

💡 Good leadership isn’t about one person making all the decisions. It’s about teamwork, accountability, communication, and doing what’s best for the people of Lyons.

An informed community is a stronger community. ❤️

Did you know how our city government was structured?

💙 There’s something special about a small town like Lyons, Kansas.

It’s the people.

The neighbors who show up when someone needs help. The families working hard to make ends meet. The small businesses that keep going even when times get tough. The people who care deeply about this town because it’s HOME.

We’re not a perfect community. We have challenges. We have disagreements. We don’t always see eye to eye.

We still have so much worth working for.

Strong leadership isn’t about having all the answers or being the loudest voice in the room, or the loudest keyboard warrior.

It’s about listening when it’s hard. Doing research. Making educated decisions with integrity. Being willing to admit mistakes.

Serving people is a responsibility, not a title.

I believe leadership requires humility, courage, wisdom, and a willingness to work alongside people, even when we disagree.

My faith reminds me daily that none of us are called to be perfect. We’re called to love one another and serve with the gifts God has given us.

Lyons is more than buildings, streets, and city limits. It’s people. It’s families. It’s our future.

Every one of us can have a part in shaping what that future looks like.

Today, I want to ask you something.

❤️ What is ONE thing about Lyons that makes you proud to call it home?

I’d love to hear your stories.

Hi Lyons! I'm Alicia Hommon.

Many of you know me as your mayor. Others know me as a neighbor, a friend, or just Alicia.

I'm a woman of faith. A wife, a community member, and an ordinary person who has good days, hard days, and plenty of lessons still to learn.

I don't have all the answers. I've made mistakes. I've faced challenges. And just like so many of you, I lean on God for wisdom and strength along the way.

Serving as mayor has taught me a lot about our community, our people, and the importance of listening—even when we don't agree.

I'm officially announcing my intention to seek reelection as Mayor of Lyons in 2026.

Over the coming days, I want to share more about what we've worked on, the challenges our city faces, the decisions I've made, and what I believe still deserves our attention.

I also want to hear from you.

What's one thing you love about Lyons, and one thing you'd like to see improve?

Let's have some good conversations about the place we all call home.

With faith, gratitude, and a heart for service,
Alicia Hommon 💙

Very interesting seminar on Data Centers, location viability, and systems (water, wastewater, electricity) impact this morning. Education is key to making informed decisions for the future for Lyons.

I want to extend a huge thank‑you to the Lyons Fire Department, Lyons Police Department, and all other surrounding agencies who answered the call today. Your professionalism and courage in containing today's structure fire reflect the very best of public service. Our community is safer because of you.

In the past 24 hours something really cool has happened in our town.

A- Matt Stafford, a dreamer, reached out and asked if we have cooling centers set up.
B- Chris Rogers - a coordinator, connected with church leaders to express the need and line up churches who could meet that need.
C- Cody Luck/Southern Star - provided a needed resource of bottled water, and
D - Elizabeth Fuller, a communicator, began work on informing the community

Each person did what they were gifted to do, and didn't worry or complain about the parts they couldn't. A BIG task was completed, because all the pieces fit together, and today we as a community get to help our neighbors who are in need of a safe place to get out of dangerous heat.

THIS is how we change a city.

Thank you, to all those who have helped, and specifically to those who have gone unseen or unnamed: you may be the silent partners, but your impact is not invisible. ❤️

What is it that YOU are good at that would be life-giving to you to have used for your community? What are the connections you need to get your piece added to the jigsaw puzzle of Lyons?
