ODOT NEWS and a better update...

Good News: The ramp from Eastbound SR2 to SR53N was opened 10/1/26.

A better clarification about next week's closure: If you are coming from Sandusky to Danbury Township and normally exit at 125 OR
if you are leaving Danbury Township and are going toward Sandusky or further east OR if you are leaving Danbury Township and need to go toward Port Clinton or further west, you can PROCEED AS YOU NORMALLY DO.

The ONLY ramp closed at the SR2/SR269 interchange is the eastbound SR-2 exit to Northbound SR269. Both entrance ramps to both directions of SR-2 remain open. In a nutshell...if you are coming from the west and going east, plan to get off at the SR 53 Catawba exit next week.

𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄!!
We realize this is confusing, but it is the final version from ODOT of what will occur next week. Please drive safely.

Westbound SR-2 at SR-269 will be closed for overhead bridge repairs, including girder heat-straightening, beginning Monday, October 5, at 7:00 p.m. The closure is expected to remain in place until Friday, October 9, around 6:00 a.m., weather permitting.

All Westbound SR-2 traffic will be required to exit at Exit 125A-B, the northbound SR-269 interchange. Drivers should use northbound SR-269 through the nearby roundabout, then take the SR-269 southbound to westbound SR-2 ramp on the opposite side of the bridge to re-enter SR-2 westbound.

The eastbound SR-2 to northbound SR-269 ramp (ramp only) will also be closed during this period, eastbound SR-2 thru traffic permitted. The detour is eastbound SR-2 to northbound SR-53, eastbound SR-163, and then southbound SR-269.

These closures and detours are needed to allow crews to complete the bridge repairs safely.

🚒 🚑 On September 25 the Danbury Township Fire Department hosted faculty and staff from EHOVE Career Center for a morning of interactive instruction. The visitors participated in a CPR overview, fire extinguisher training and fire hose usage. The Fire Department has a long-standing relationship with EHOVE for employee training and certification in firefighting and emergency medical services. This event provided a hands-on opportunity for school staff to step outside of their daily activities and visit a department that benefits from the instructional expertise at EHOVE. 🚑 🚒

To clarify, the current project involving the SR53 north bridge closure is scheduled to wrap up on Thursday, 10/01/26. Following that, on Monday night, 10/05/26, we’ll begin the separate project to repair impact damage on the OTT-269-0154 bridge over SR-2, which will require SR53 as part of the detour.
Since these are two distinct projects with different timelines and purposes, the closure for SR53 north bridge will conclude before the OTT-269-0154 bridge repairs begin. I hope this explanation helps clear up any confusion regarding the dates and sequencing. Please let me know if you have any other questions or need further details!

Please be advised that more than one Danbury Township Trustee will be attending an event presentation hosted by the Ottawa County Engineer's Office and the Ottawa County Soil & Water Conservation District Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at 3:00p.m. at Damschroder Hall at the Ottawa County Fairgrounds, located at 7870 West SR 163, Oak Harbor, Ohio 43449. The event presentation is regarding the upcoming renewal of the Ohio EPA Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit and how storm water management can be addressed collaboratively throughout Ottawa County. Because more than one Trustee will be in attendance, this is considered to be a Special Public Meeting. No action is expected of the Danbury Township Trustees and the hosts do not intend to keep minutes of the presentation. Posted 09.14.26 @ 9:52a.m.
