Yesterday, I was both honored and humbled as our department hosted the 35th Annual Stark County Firefighters Association Memorial Service.

With approximately 100 in attendance, we gathered to honor and remember 41 Stark County firefighters who passed away this year. As each firefighter’s name was read, a candle was lit, and the bell was rung in remembrance of their service and sacrifice.

We remembered not only their commitment and dedication to their respective communities and Stark County, but also their contributions to the fire service. Each of these individuals leaves behind a legacy of service and a willingness to answer the call when others were in need.

In addition to honoring our fallen firefighters, candles were lit and the bell was rung in remembrance of police officers and members of our military who have also made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.

The ceremony served as a reminder that, while our uniforms and responsibilities may differ, we share a common bond of service, sacrifice, and dedication to protecting others.

May we never forget those who answered the call, served with honor, and made a lasting difference in the lives of others.
Special thanks to Pastor Will Stuart, Alisha Dennis, and the entire Richville United Church of Christ for their generosity and hospitality in providing the use of their Church and facilities. You made the day one to remember.
