💙 Lead Poisoning Prevention Week may be ending, but prevention happens all year long!

👪 Let’s keep working to protect our children and families from lead exposure.

Remember:
- Ask your child’s healthcare provider about recommended lead testing.
- Learn about lead hazards in older homes.
- Use lead-safe practices during home repairs.
- Reach out for help if you suspect lead exposure.

🚰 UPDATE: Boil Water Order Lifted for Fredonia Village Water Customers, Conserve Water Order Remains in Effect

The boil water order has been lifted for all Village of Fredonia water customers, including those in the Town of Pomfret.

Water has been confirmed safe for drinking, cooking and other everyday uses. However, the water conservation order remains in effect.

Residents, businesses and institutions are asked to continue conserving water while the treatment plant maintains its filtration operations.

⏰🍂 Fall Back: Turn Back Your Clocks & Check Your Home!

Daylight saving time ends Sunday, November 1! As you turn your clocks back one hour, take a few minutes to check a few important things around your home.

🏠 Use this seasonal reminder to:

🔥 Test smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms. Make sure alarms work properly and replace batteries if needed. Replace expired alarms according to the manufacturer's instructions.

☢️ Test your home for radon. Radon is an invisible, odorless gas that can increase the risk of lung cancer. The only way to know if radon is in your home is to test—and the Chautauqua County Health Department has free radon test kits available!

🧯 Check fire extinguishers. Make sure they are accessible and ready to use.

🔌 Inspect heating equipment. Check space heaters, fireplaces, and other heating sources before regular use. Keep anything that produces heat away from curtains, furniture, and other flammable materials.

🧥 Prepare for colder weather. Check emergency supplies, flashlights, and batteries before winter weather arrives.

A small reminder now can help keep your household safer all season long! ❤️

🏠Planning a home renovation? Think lead safety first!

If your home was built before 1978, it may contain lead-based paint. Sanding, scraping, drilling, or removing old paint can create dangerous lead dust.

🔨 Before starting a project:
- Find out whether lead-based paint may be present
- Hire a lead-safe certified contractor
- Keep children and pregnant people away from renovation area
- Never dry-sweep or use an ordinary household vacuum to clean up suspected lead dust

✅ Fact: Lead hazards may also come from contaminated dust, soil, plumbing, and certain household products.

❌ Myth: Cleaning visible dirt means my home is lead-safe.
✅ Fact: Lead dust can be invisible. Appropriate testing and lead-safe cleaning practices may be needed

❌ Myth: Lead poisoning is inevitable in older homes.
✅ Fact: Lead exposure is preventable. Identifying hazards and using safe practices helps protect families.
