On Oct. 4, Rev. Nathan L. Taylor of the Virginia Baptist Historical Society joined us at Historic Polegreen Church to mark 250 years since the 1776 Dissenters’ Petition, signed by nearly 10,000 Virginians who asked for equal liberty of conscience. His remarks, now shared in written form, trace the history of the dissenters from the jailed preachers of the 1760s to the petition delivered on Oct. 16, 1776. Polegreen was one of the first licensed non-Anglican meeting houses in Virginia, and it is an honor to help tell this story. Thank you, Nathan, for being part of our Voices of Conscience program.
