🎉 Celebrating Jordyn Landon! 🎉
👏 Please join us in congratulating Jordyn on this well-deserved recognition!
Career & College Advisers play a vital role in helping Midland County students explore their options, plan for their futures, and navigate the path to postsecondary education and career success. Through one-on-one support, family engagement, and a commitment to reducing barriers, they help ensure every learner has access to opportunities beyond high school. Today, we’d like you to meet Meridian Early College High School & Academic & Career Education Academy Advisor, Jordyn Landon, in her own words.
“During my last year of college, I started substitute teaching and quickly realized how much I loved being in a school environment. While I wanted to explore my marketing degree, I also knew I wanted a career that allowed me to work with students.
After talking with the current College & Career Adviser, I learned the role combined both of my interests through event planning, marketing, community outreach, and helping students prepare for life after high school. When she left midway through the school year, I had the opportunity to take over and organize Decision Day, and I knew this was what I wanted to do.
I completed my AdviseMI training in 2024 and have now served as a College & Career Adviser at three different schools. I love helping students discover their next steps, and I've enjoyed the role so much that I recently signed on for the 2026-2027 school year.
My favorite part of this job is getting to be someone students can rely on. Applying to college, filling out financial aid, and planning for life after high school can be intimidating, and I love helping make those steps feel less overwhelming. Since I was in their shoes not too long ago, I can relate to what they're going through and share advice from my own experience. I really enjoy watching students realize they're capable of more than they thought, and it's incredibly rewarding to celebrate those big milestones with them. I don't have siblings, so getting to mentor students and watch them succeed is a really special part of my job.
I want to remind students that it's okay to make mistakes. That's how you learn, grow, and figure out what you're capable of. Give yourself grace because no one has it all figured out, even if it seems like they do. There will be late nights, hard classes, and moments when you question yourself, but I promise those moments won't last forever. Don't be afraid to say yes to opportunities that feel a little outside your comfort zone. Those experiences often end up being the ones that shape you the most. And trust me, before you know it, you'll be looking back wishing you had just a little more time.
I wish more students and families knew that they don't have to navigate this process alone. College advising isn't just for students who already know what they want to do after high school. We're here to help every student explore their options, whether that's college, skilled trades, the military, or going directly into the workforce. There are also millions of dollars in scholarships that go unclaimed every year simply because students don't apply. Whether it's completing the FAFSA, searching for scholarships, or figuring out your next steps, we're here to help. Never be afraid to ask questions.”
Thank you for all that you do, Jordyn!
