Narcotics Investigation Leads to Arrest on Drug and Resisting Charges

Sheriff J.D. Hartman announces that on October 28, 2026, the Davie County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division received an anonymous tip that a suspect was traveling through surrounding counties and was believed to be involved in drug activity.
Acting on that information, Narcotics Division detectives located the vehicle described in the tip and conducted an open-air sniff with K9 Smoke. K9 Smoke gave a positive indication on the vehicle.
Detectives then entered the adjacent place of business to locate the suspect, who was identified as Jonathan Welborn Yarboro, age: 36, of the 200 block of T G W Drive, Elkin. Yarboro resisted detectives upon contact, resulting in a physical altercation before he was taken into custody.
A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of ma*****na paraphernalia. Detectives also located Schedule IV pills concealed in Yarboro's sock, directly behind his court-ordered ankle monitor.
Yarboro was arrested and charged with:

Misdemeanor Resist, Obstruct and Delay — 1 count
Misdemeanor Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance — 1 count

Yarboro received a $10,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Davie County District Court at the Davie County Courthouse on December 3, 2026.
"Our Narcotics Division continues to act on information from the public, and this case is a direct result of a citizen choosing to speak up," said Sheriff J.D. Hartman. "I commend our detectives and K9 Smoke for their work, and I want to remind our residents that tips like this one make a real difference in our community."

Asheville Woman Charged in Overnight Break-Ins at Mocksville Storage Facility; Stolen Fi****ms Sought

A 46-year-old Asheville woman faces multiple felony charges following a Davie County Sheriff's Office investigation into a series of overnight break-ins at a Mocksville self-storage facility in which two fi****ms, two generators, a utility trailer, jewelry, and household property were stolen.

Michelle Lynn Cole, 46, of Asheville, was located by Buncombe County Sheriff's Office deputies on October 28, 2026, and transported to the Buncombe County Detention Center on warrants issued in Davie County. Cole received a $200,000 secured bond and placed in Buncombe County Detention Center. Cole has a court date of November 5, 2026 in Davie District Court.

The investigation began on October 10, 2026, at approximately 12:11 p.m., when a deputy was dispatched to Premier Storage Solutions at 325 Farmington Road in Mocksville in reference to a larceny. A renter reported that two generators — a red and black Coleman 6500 and a yellow and black Firman 9500 — had been taken from an interior storage unit sometime after late September 2026.

Surveillance footage obtained from the storage facility showed a subject arriving on the property on September 28, 2026, at 12:27 a.m. The footage captured the subject gaining entry through the facility's secured gate and then entering multiple storage units, loading property onto a trailer, and leaving the property in a red 2007 Toyota Tacoma with a white camper shell towing a trailer later determined to have been stolen from the same facility.
Investigators determined five storage units were entered and eight additional units were the subject of attempted entry. Padlocks on two units were cut with bolt cutters. Stolen property reported across the affected units includes two fi****ms, a safe box containing coins, numerous pieces of jewelry, a Nintendo Switch, luggage, small appliances, and craft and household items.

On October 23, 2026, a Davie County magistrate found probable cause and issued arrest warrants charging Cole with offenses including breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, two counts of larceny of a fi***rm, safecracking, injury to personal property, first-degree trespass, and eight counts of attempted breaking and entering.

Sheriff Hartman credited the facility's cooperation in providing surveillance footage, as well as assistance from the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office, in advancing the investigation.
Deputies ask for anyone with information about this case, or anyone who may have been offered any of the stolen property for sale, is asked to contact the Davie County Sheriff's Office at 336-751-6238. Tips may also be submitted anonymously at https://davie-so-nc.zuercherportal.com/ #/submit_tip.

Storage facility renters are encouraged to secure units with high-security padlocks that resist cutting and picking, and to maintain a written inventory including serial numbers and photographs of stored valuables.
