Students Visit Gettysburg

Yesterday, the 9th grade class and Mr. Newcomer's AP Human Geography students traveled to Gettysburg to get a first hand look at one of history's most important locations during the Civil War. Students explored the battle fields, including Devil's Den and Little Round Top Hill, and toured the visitor's museum.

MHS Places 3rd in Regional PA Keystone Competition

Today, three teams of Montgomery students traveled to Lycoming College for the region's PA Keystone Competition facilitated by BLaST IU 17. The competition was a one-day statewide STEM competition for students in grades 5-12 to tackle a real-world challenge, design innovative solutions, and showcase their ideas. Students competed in three divisions: grades 5-6, grades 7-8, and grades 9-12. All of our competing students represented MASD with integrity as they gave honest, focused effort at the event. Advisors Eric Brown and Bess Lowry are most proud of their teams' approach to the challenge, regardless of placement.

Congrats to high school team members Emily Miller, Cash Hill, Amelia Shrimp, and Mady Dieffenderfer on the creativity, teamwork, and ex*****on that led to their third place award.

Great things are happening here! 🤩
AP Statistics 📈

Today, students in Mrs. Hack’s AP Statistics class statistically determined the probability and likelihood of Joy Milne correctly identifying Parkinson’s disease through scent alone. Joy is a woman who claims she can smell Parkinson’s and her discovery has led to much more research and training of dogs to detect it in early stages. Students attempted to smell t-shirts to see if they could detect the scent to determine the likelihood she was just guessing and got lucky. They then were able to make conclusions based on the experiment.

Great things are happening here! 🤩
Integrated STEM IV ⚙️ 💻 💡

Students in Mr. Brown's high school STEM course just finished the latest revision on their robot design. The team tested the bot's mobility and its ability to move and manipulate a variety of objects, including a spring toy, a wooden egg, and some diving rings. They look forward to competing with this robot at the Technology Student Association Region 7 Leadership Conference held at Warrior Run High School in January. Nice work, students!
