🚒National First Responders Day🚒

Today, we recognize and honor the men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving our communities.

Today, Monroe County unveiled three pillars honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice in Emergency Communications (911), Fire Services, and Emergency Medical Services. These pillars stand as a lasting tribute to the heroes who gave everything in the line of duty.

This year, our Mumford Fire Department family lost one of our own,Michael Burnside to a cancer-related illness. Today, our membership was present to honor Mikey.

Mikey dedicated years of service to our department and our community, leaving behind a legacy that will never be forgotten. Having his name forever memorialized among those who made the ultimate sacrifice is a reminder of the risks our first responders face, both on and off the emergency scene.

Today, we remember Mikey, honor his service, and stand with his family and everyone who continues to carry his memory forward.

Gone but never forgotten.

Along with the incredible community turnout at our Fall BBQ, we were honored to welcome several of our local and state leaders who came out to show their support!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out and supported our Mumford Fire Department Fall BBQ! Your continued support means the world to our membership and helps us continue serving our community.

Our BBQ is a weeks-long effort that takes countless hours of preparation, hard work, and teamwork from our members. Once the serving line starts moving, our crews are pushing out roughly 10 dinners a minute! 🍗🔥

We couldn’t do it without our dedicated members, volunteers, and the amazing community that continues to support us year after year.

From all of us at the Mumford Fire Department, THANK YOU for making another BBQ a success!

“‘‘Twas the night before fall BBQ,
When all through the firehouse
Not a creature was stirring,
Not even a mouse:
The fire gear was hung in the truck room with care,
In hopes that St. Florian soon would be there:
The firemen were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of chicken & ribs danced in their heads:
The Chief in his white helmet and the rest in air packs,
Had just settled in for long falls naps:
When out in the parking lot there arose such a clatter,
The Chief sprung from his recliner to see what was the matter:
Away to the radio room he flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash:
The moon on the breast of the new fallen leaves,
Gave a confused look at the line forming under the eaves:
When what to his wondering eyes did appear,
But friends and family from towns far and near,
They had come in hand fifteen dollars each,
They had come for chicken, ribs, and of course beets:
The firemen moved quickly to start the grill and the smoker,
To keep back the crowds they would need a hot poker:
The scalloped potatoes were done and the rib smoker grew quiet,
It was time to get selling or risk a small riot:
With Goodie at the cash box, and Stan at the grill,
All the townsfolk were in for thrill:
The line moved quickly and we were soon sold out,
Folks that arrived late had to go home and pout:
To those who were late or out town,
Don’t just walk away with a frown:
A thought for your mind to fix,
We will do this again in Spring of 2027”

🚒🔥 Fire Prevention Starts Young! 🔥🚒

We had the honor of welcoming our local Pre-K and Kindergarten classes down to the fire department for some Fire Prevention education!

Our crews enjoyed spending time with these little ones, teaching them about fire safety and giving them a glimpse into the fire service. ❤️

These are the future of the fire service! 🚒 Who knows, we might have some future firefighters right here in this group!

Last night, our crews took advantage of the nice weather and got outside for some hands-on training! 🚒

Crews had the opportunity to utilize our Holmatro PENTHEON E-Tools, putting them to work on a donated vehicle. Members practiced spreading and cutting operations, including removing the vehicle doors.

A big thank you to those who make training like this possible by donating vehicles for our crews to use!
