Our hearts are heavy as we acknowledge the unfortunate tragedy that occurred in our Affordable Housing community of Earthstone Terrace.
In moments like this, we naturally want to understand what happened and why. As our community processes this tragedy, we believe it is important not to let assumptions or blame overshadow the people and families affected.
Most importantly, a life has been lost. We are deeply saddened by the loss of any life and extend our sincere condolences to the family, loved ones, and all those affected by this tragedy.
This incident should not define the Muncie Housing Authority, the City of Muncie, our leadership, or,most importantly, the many residents and families who call Earthstone Terrace home. Acts of violence and the circumstances that contribute to them are complex challenges that affect neighborhoods, cities, towns, and communities across our country. Addressing those challenges requires all of us to remain focused on safety, compassion, accountability, and community.
We should never allow one tragic event to become a characterization of an entire neighborhood or the good people who live there.
As for our residents, MHA will continue doing what we have committed ourselves to doing: meeting people where they are, supporting their housing needs, and working alongside our partners to provide homes and communities where individuals and families can feel safe, supported, and valued.
We stand with our Earthstone Terrace residents and everyone affected during this difficult time.
