Built in 1848. Located in Wildcat Den State Park. It has been restored to demonstration condition.

Pine Creek Grist Mill was built in 1848 by Benjamin Nye, Muscatine County's first settler. The Mill is located in Wldcat den State Park, along the banks of Pine Creek and 1/2 mile from the Mississippi. It seems to be one of the 2 oldest working grist mills between the Mississippi and the Rockies (still on its original site).

From this point, August 19th thru mid-October, the Pine Creek Grist Mill will be open WEEKENDS ONLY. On Saturdays, we’re open 10 - 5. On Sundays, we’re open 12 - 5. We’ll be open on Labor Day, too!

In this particular photo, the atmosphere around the Mill appears foggy. The Muscatine Area has been experiencing copious amounts of rain, which has Pine Creek running high and out of its banks, which can be seen in the background. For mid-August, that is unusual, and more typical of May or June. Wanted to share the nifty photo with those who appreciate the gorgeous Pine Creek Grist Mill.

Pine Creek Mill is again hosting river boat cruisers who are interested in the Muscatine area. On June 29th, 37 cruisers from all over the world learned by about the mill. I had a good time visiting with a woman from London England. Also visited with travelers from Kentucky, Florida and Texas.

UPDATED HOURS

We have reached the end of our Summer Hours, and have transitioned to Fall Hours. Now, thru mid-October, we’re open WEEKENDS ONLY. There’s still some time to come for a visit! We’ll see you soon.

Pine Creek Grist Mill will be open for the 2026 Summer Travel Season soon. Our hours vary by month, so be aware. During May, September, and into mid-October, we are open weekends ONLY! June, July, and August we are open extended hours, including Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. The mill is open from 10 to 5, Wednesdays - Saturdays, and 12 - 5 on Sundays. We are closed during periods of inclement weather, for the safety of our staff. Friends of the Mill is a nonprofit organization, which fundraises to keep the mill open in order to provide visiting hours. We do not receive funds from the Iowa DNR to operate. This year, Friends of the Mill is celebrating 30 years of service to the community, with our continuing efforts to maintain and interpret the historic grist mill. We look forward to hosting your group this summer!

CBI Bank and Trust gave the mill a nice gift before Christmas. The mill group received a $100 donation as part of the bank's Hometown Hundreds program. Thank you CBI.
