As we count down to a one-of-a-kind Americana night on June 26 at The Hermitage, we’re proud to spotlight the incomparable 𝗘𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗸.

A true original in modern country music, Elizabeth Cook is known for her sharp songwriting, unmistakable voice, and fearless storytelling. A Florida native with deep Appalachian roots, she grew up surrounded by music—her parents both played instruments, and her early life was shaped by the raw, real stories of Southern life that would later define her sound.

Since making her Grand Ole Opry debut in 2000, Cook has gone on to make over 400 appearances on the iconic stage—an extraordinary milestone that makes her one of the most frequent guests in Opry history, despite never officially joining the membership roster.

Her career has taken her from major-label releases to critically acclaimed independent records, with standout albums like 𝘏𝘦𝘺 𝘠’𝘢𝘭𝘭, 𝘉𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘴, 𝘞𝘦𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘳 and 𝘌𝘹𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘝𝘦𝘯𝘶𝘴. Over the coming weeks, we’ll trace this story through war, politics, and the life of Johnney Fulton, a man enslaved at The Hermitage who later gained his freedom. Together, these stories provide important context for understanding Juneteenth and the history it represents.

We begin in the era of the American Revolution and Andrew Jackson’s early adulthood, when the ideals of liberty and independence existed alongside the institution of slavery.

Originally from Dyersburg, Tennessee, Shantelle discovered her love for music at an early age before moving to Nashville to attend Tennessee State University. It was during her time at TSU that she fell in love with the blues—a passion that continues to fuel every performance today.

Known as the “Princess of Blues,” Shantelle is an active supporter of the blues community through organizations like the Musicians Aid Society, Nashville Blues and Roots Alliance, and The Blues Foundation. Her first blues single, “Haunting Me,” is now streaming on all platforms, showcasing the soulful sound and emotional storytelling that have made her a standout artist in the genre.
