Honoring the Retirement of Investigator Justin D. Gehringer
The department also took the opportunity to honor retired New Hartford Police Investigator Justin D. Gehringer, who retired in August 2026 following more than 20 years of dedicated law enforcement service.
Investigator Gehringer began his career with the New Hartford Police Department in 2006. During his tenure, he became a relied upon certified Evidence Technician, and an FBI Certified Crisis Negotiator during his time here. Justin also advanced to the position of Investigator, where he was most recently assigned to the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. In that capacity, he was responsible for investigating numerous complex criminal cases, drawing upon his extensive experience, investigative skills, and knowledge of law enforcement procedures.
Beyond his investigative abilities, Investigator Gehringer was particularly well known for his exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. He possessed a natural ability to connect with people, build trust, and put individuals at ease, often during some of the most difficult and stressful moments of their lives. These qualities served him especially well throughout his investigative career and reflected the compassion, professionalism, and understanding he brought to his work.
Throughout his career, Investigator Gehringer demonstrated a strong commitment to the department, his fellow officers, and the community he served. In recognition of his many years of service, he was presented with his official retirement credentials and a commemorative plaque honoring his contributions to the New Hartford Police Department.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Investigator Gehringer for his more than two decades of dedicated service and wish him a long, healthy, and enjoyable retirement and we know he will stop in and check on us along the way.
The New Hartford Police Department congratulates all award recipients and extends its sincere appreciation for their professionalism, dedication, and continued commitment to protecting and serving our community. We also thank the New Hartford Fire Department for its continued partnership and for recognizing the outstanding efforts of our first responders.
