🏛️ Did You Know? A Little New Iberia History

Long before Bouligny Plaza became a gathering place in downtown New Iberia, the property was home to Iberia Parish's first permanent courthouse, built in 1884.

Nearby stood New Iberia's original City Hall, which opened in 1898 and housed a farmers market, fire department, and city offices.

One interesting piece of history: the fire bell in that building sounded the alarm during New Iberia's devastating fire of 1899.

Today, Bouligny Plaza remains a part of our community's story, providing a beautiful public space in the heart of downtown.
