It’s School Concert Season at the US Coast Guard Band!

This week we continue our tradition of inviting thousands of children into Leamy Hall to learn about music and the US Coast Guard. From logistics and script building to conducting, hosting, and performing, all elements of these concerts are lead by our musicians!

In a hemisphere-spanning tour of several Pacific Island nations, two of our chamber groups recently completed an annual outreach mission dubbed “Operation Blue Pacific.” Over a two week period, the Pacific Winds and Pacific Reeds performed countless shows for students, diplomats, dignitaries, service members, and citizens of Palau, Yap, Guam, Tonga, and Fiji. Our musicians traveled halfway across the world to fulfill two of the Band’s most important jobs: providing free, high quality music education and promoting understanding of all the ways that the U.S. Coast Guard protects communities at home and abroad.

Musical highlights include Bob Margolis’ “Terpsichore”, Percy Grainger’s “The Gum-Suckers March”, and features of our vocal soloists on the Frank Sinatra hit “My Way” and a Disney song medley.
