The Austrian Cultural Forum hosts more than 100 free events per year, including exhibitions, concerts

With its architectural landmark building in Midtown Manhattan the Austrian Cultural Forum New York is the cultural embassy of Austria in the United States. It hosts more than 200 free events annually and showcases Austrian contemporary art, music, literature, and academic thought in New York. The Austrian Cultural Forum enjoys long-standing and flourishing partnerships with many venerable cultural and academic institutions throughout New York and the United States.

Join us for an evening celebrating 15 years of Lucid Duo, the Austrian marimba duo of Irena and Tomasz, as they trace their artistic journey through classical masterworks, original compositions, and contemporary approaches to the marimba.

The program features arrangements of works by Bach, Beethoven, Ravel, Schubert, and Chopin, alongside original compositions by Tomasz Goliński, nature-inspired works by marimba legend Keiko Abe, Balkan grooves, and Viennese waltz rhythms.

Since forming in 2011, Lucid Duo has performed across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, developing a distinctive repertoire that brings together classical traditions and contemporary innovation. Based in Vienna, the duo continues to explore the marimba’s expressive range and virtuosic possibilities on the international concert stage.

🇦🇹 Austrian cinema takes the spotlight with two films exploring identity, family, and mental health: “Mother’s Baby” by Johanna Moder, a psychological thriller about a mother questioning her bond with her newborn, and “How to Be Normal and the Oddness of the Other World” by Florian Pochlatko, which follows a young woman rebuilding her life after leaving a psychiatric institution. The latter premiered in the Berlinale’s Perspectives section in 2025 and received two Austrian Film Awards in 2026.

Set in contemporary Belarus, this 2025 narrative feature follows Masha, a model dreaming of a career in China, and Misha, a painter working at a morgue. Two loners from seemingly opposite worlds form an unlikely friendship, revealing unexpected connections between the fashion industry and the funeral business.

Co-presented by Deutsches Haus at NYU and Erste Bank, on the occasion of WHITE SNAIL receiving the 2025 Viennale Erste Bank Film Award.

Austrian violinist, composer, and interdisciplinary artist returns to Carnegie Hall on November 12 for his debut as a composer, presenting the world premiere of "OCEAN" with the MidAtlantic Philharmonic Orchestra.

Written for symphony orchestra, marimba, and solo violin, "OCEAN" brings Revich’s work as a composer and performer together on one stage, with Revich performing the solo violin part himself. Inspired by the sea’s changing colors, winds, and depths, the composition reflects the power and vulnerability of the natural world and the importance of protecting it.

A Stradivari violinist, Revich has performed at leading international venues and also serves as a UNICEF Austria Honorary Representative.

Austria remains militarily neutral and firmly committed to defending the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.

Join us for the Frederic Morton Library Filmklub, a screening series dedicated to Austrian film and its connections to literature, history, and culture. This screening features Three Days (1970), Ferry Radax’s intimate, made-for-TV portrait of Austrian writer Thomas Bernhard.

Filmed over three days, the documentary captures Bernhard reflecting on his aesthetic education, literary and philosophical preoccupations, and his grim outlook on the writing life. The film offers an early, candid glimpse into the mind of one of Austria’s most important postwar writers.

🎭📖 Last night, we welcomed guests for a staged reading of "Youth Without God", based on the novel by Austrian-Hungarian writer Ödön von Horváth.

Published in exile in 1937, "Youth Without God" offers a powerful examination of conformity, ideology, and moral responsibility. Through the story of a teacher who witnesses his students embracing racial prejudice and obedience over compassion and truth, Horváth confronts the dangers of silence in the face of injustice.

The reading brought selected passages of the novel to life through two voices: the detached perspective of the narrator and the voices of young people growing up caught between ideology and inner emptiness. Actor Peter Kendall Clark and student actor Aidan Cummins gave voice to Horváth’s words, accompanied by award-winning cellist and composer Tamar Sagiv, who performed her own compositions. The evening was directed by Gregorij H. von Leïtis, with concept and introduction by Michael Lahr von Leïtis.

We were delighted to share an evening of literature, theater, and music that continues to resonate with questions of conscience, complicity, and the responsibility we bear toward one another.

A heartfelt thank you to the performers, the creative team, and everyone who joined us for this thought-provoking evening. And special thanks to "Elysium – between two continents" and "The Lahr von Leïtis Academy & Archive" for their collaboration in bringing this important work to the Forum. ❤️

What does a chord smell like? Can a fragrance have a rhythm? Join us for Resonance Studies, a lecture performance by Viennese artist, musician, and perfumer Alexander Kasses () exploring the deep structural kinship between music and scent.

Moving between listening and smelling, Kasses traces episodes from the history of perfumery, demonstrates how fragrances are composed like pieces of music, and invites audiences to experience both art forms firsthand.

🎶 Featuring Alexander Kasses
Based in Vienna, Kasses is a multimedia artist, musician, and perfumer who studied transmedia art at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and electroacoustic and computer music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In 2025, he founded NÉOMIRAGE (), a niche perfume label composed, produced, and bottled entirely in Vienna. Recently added to the curated selection of Stèle New York, NÉOMIRAGE launches in the United States in conjunction with this performance.
